Today during our friendly three ball play from our group was a little slower than usual as none of us were playing Very well. We lost about half a hole on the two ball in front. The two ball behind had to wait on a couple of tees but thy was it. When we had holed out on the eighth we turned to go back to the ninth tee to see the twoball behind us teeing off! My partners not amused tackle them as they walk down. Their response "we are playing in a match play comp, and the hole is over so we are playing through"

My partners and myself now really riled at the arrogance then to be told that we have lost over a hole on the group infront anyway! Well they ate on the green now so that's wrong!

Anyway off they trundle and leave behind them three very angry players.

They can't have been playing matchplay as neither holed out.!!

Anyway rant over, we caught them at the tenth and then they disappeared, you can cut through from the 13th green to 15th fairway and off the course if you fancy.

Firstly how would you all of responded and second if they had asked prob wouldn't of had problem but at no point were they near enough to play through.

The fact they are a match and finished the hole is irrelevant, whether true or not. They are not entitled to cut in ahead of you. A two ball might expect to have to wait behind a three, but if a space was available ahead, I would have let them through.

+1.
Unless they were able to tee-off and get clear of you before you were ready to tee off they shouldn't be cutting through.

But it's not worth getting uptight about it. Let them go. then you haven't got them breathing down your necks.

Hmmmmm, yes they could have been playing matchplay (and probably were to be honest) if they didn't hole out. Yes you were losing ground on the group in front...... and yes, had they asked politely you would probably have let them through (wouldn't you?).

Whatever, they should have asked and not just bullied their way through you. Even though they did this you shouldn't let it spoil your game. As discussed on a thread a few days ago, some clubs allow matches to have priority so they may well have been entitled to come through and common sense says a match will play quicker than a 3 ball (even if you play well) and you should let them go when asked.

Would of gladly let them through but they went that close and playing no better than we were! The only hole they had to wait on was the par 3 7th while we holed out. If they had been breathing down our necks I would of stood aside no worries as a, I can't stand people presuring and b, I would like to be treated the same. It was arrogance that really got up my nose.

So rules wise etc a competion group has no more standing on th e course than a normal group.

This sort of thing happens on a saturday morning. you get alot of fourballs out playing with a two mixed in somewhere. Quite often the two ball will think they should be able to play thru everyone even tho the one group of fourball maybe waitng for the group in front to clear

It got up my nose, but after playing the ninth I just put it aside as I didn't want it to ruin the round, not worth it but wanted to pick the brains of you guys.

I think there are local/accepted rules regarding this.

We weren't allowed to play through today, on orders from the pro. We were playing club matchplay (singles, h'cap) and the 4 balls were in some Open pairs stableford uber-slow event.
