Equal Pay

Woman got their pay rise purely as the tournament hosts were so scared if being accused of being sexist.

Good point well made, and the good news is that as you are a golfer then there's little chance of the R&A caving into such demands and getting involved in all this equality nonsense as they are real men.

Oy Australian Open organisers, you bunch of lefties, tell the women to know their place. Which is in the kitchen, or if they are hot half naked in magazines. You've not done this because it is morally the right thing to do in 2014, or that you are taking a brave decision and are committed to equality in actions as well as well meaning words. But you've only done it because you are are bunch of pussies scared of being called sexist. You gay or something?

£757m for 157 woman!

Last month 174 people who worked in traditionally-female roles won a ruling at the Supreme Court over the pay.
The £757m includes claims by that group and hundreds of other city council workers.

As the article said.......

Why on earth is it morally right? As I've already mentioned. Sport is a business, if certain parts of the business perform better then they deserve the financial benefits. And as you your remakes about homosexuality. I find it out of order that you try and compare them. Although maybe Thomas hitZelsberger came out once he retired be vises there's an 'gay reduction' clause in his contract?

Does that mean every footballer should get paid the same ?

In sport people are paid dependant on their ability

Prize money is given out dependant on importance and in both golf and tennis prize money is dependant on how long they actually play

If ladies decided to play best out of 5 in tennis then organisers may offer them more prize money

In life people are paid dependant on the job they do and how well they do it

This has become so mired in posturing about sexism and being right-on that its now missing a fundemental point. If the prize money is the same then the women are being paid a disproportionately high amount as they perform less overall work. 2/3 less in most cases as an approximation.
Hacker Khan, would you be happy to have a colleague, regardless of sex, be paid the same as you if you worked 40 hours and they worked 27hours doing the same job?
Or would you accept it in the name of being a martyr right-onism? If the pay is PROPORTIONATELY equal then I retract the above and apologise.

i generally agree greed although saying ta dependent on talent is gonna get a response from some. I will say that the top woman players are also great sports ripple. Your general point is spot on though. You should be paid on what sponsors are willing to cover. The fact that tennis tournaments are sold as a single entity is so that the WANs prize pit can be covered by the men's.

If the men tennis players are happy with what they earn why would they be bothered if women got paid the same - even for less hours on the court and so less 'work'. Why then not just accept equality of winnings. The blokes aren't going to go on strike and it makes no difference to the audience. The women play the game that is defined for them by the tennis bodies - so they do their full job as a professional tennis player so should be paid the same as a bloke doing his full job - as defined by the tennis bodies.

I'm really not bothered - in life in general I tend not to make comparisons between myself and others on matter such as pay or other things that come my way or that I have to do. If I am happy then what comes, what goes and what I do's then fine. Besides there is no point in me worrying about differences if I can't do anything about them.

I accept what I can't change - but when I can change something I make steps to make that change happen and not sit of my backside talking or whinging about it.

Tennis? Big deal - pay them the same. If the women's game folds as a result then they will have to re-establish it and it will be on an different footing and so pay differentials would then be understood and reasonable. IF it didn't fold - great!

Again why should there be equality of winnings when they don't play the same length of game ? That's not equality - that would mean females getting more money for less work ( time on the court )

Then the men would ask why are the ladies getting paid the same as us but don't play the same amount of sets as us - that's not fair

The men did complain. Andy Murray was called a sexist for doing so. Even when he outlined the extra playing time of men. The men have also complained that there isn't enough money going into their game at the lower levels. The reason for this is because it's being spent to subsidies to woman's game.

Agree it's not "fair", but in a World full of inequalities, the plight of downtrodden Tennis multi-millionaires isn't going to be a top priority for most.....

Thas a fair point. I was hardly trying to initiate a brave heart style onslaught against the woman tennis stars. Just curious I peoples opinions.

Well yeah in the bigger picture they all get millions each year so it's a bit of a kick in the nuts them asking for the extra 100 grand for winning

I checked it out, the difference between men and woman at Wimbledon prior to the 'equality' was 40k. I guess the agreement is more a token to keep them quiet than anything else. This way, all those moaning are contented. Even if it was warranted in the first place.

Only today? Jeez, I stick up for the sisters and open myself up for all sorts of accusations of being a woolly daily mail hating liberal from misogynists everywhere, and I only get to be a hero for one day!!! Cheers love ;)

Tomorrow's a whole new day :-)

You'll still be held in the highest regard though

I'm a bit confused here. You saying the prize money for golf tournaments is dependent on how many holes they have completed or how long it has taken them to complete their round?

I read in today's paper that he is wanting the women to play 5 setters but article didn't say why. Either in return for equal pay, or to enable them to justify their call for equal pay?

I think he's referring to the cut line. Play 2 days - Earn nowt. Play 4 days - Earn loads...

Fair enough. But I do think this argument about paying sports starts based on the amount of work they do falls down a bit with Usain Bolt. I mean the guys runs for 10 seconds at most, yet gets paid shed loads more than the marathon runners. It's political correctness gone mad I tells you ;)

The interview i was referring to was sometime ago when he responded saying that if they were willing to take full prize money they should play 5 sets. He was also challenged to play Williams in a one of tournament too as they though he was saying men were better than woman (which they are). Serena said she would but fully aknowledged she lose due to a lack of power. Ironic really as that's home she beats a lot of her competitors.......

I think that they all 'work' pretty similar hours in general. I'm sure they all train pretty equal and that's work as far as I'm concerned. My primary reason for the question is that I don't think the woman's game brings in as much revenue and is actually a drain on the men's game.
