So it seems I have a thing for shafts 🤦‍♂️

Tinkered a little with my ping G425. Replaced my Alta CB s with a HZRDUS black gen 4. Didn’t work and swapped back to Alta CB.

Then purchased the Qi10 which came with a Kaili 60s.

Swapped it out for a Tensei Orange CB.

Not working for me. Lost so much distance.

Now I just tried out the Qi35. I have fallen in love with the Ventus Blue 50s shaft which I put into my Qi10.

The fitter said it could take a while to arrive as those shafts aren’t actually released yet (just a Matt finish with different writing) so he advised me to look on eBay for an older model.

Now i’m here looking and it comes in Blue, Red or Black.

I know I want 50s but the colours are making me confused. I’ve only tried the blue. Any help appreciated.

Quick version. Red is med/high launching, Blue is medium and black is low.

If blue worked then stick with that. I use the Fujikura Pro 60 which is a m/h launch and I tried the Ventus black, was very low. Too low for my liking.

I’ve got a Red (Callaway tip) ready to purchase on eBay but will need a bit of tinkering with - so I’m holding back.

Also, neither of these older models are a Matt finish.

I have noticed that I have consistently hit Matt finished shafts better and it just seems to give me a confidence boost when standing over the ball.

Is that even a thing?

I’m also assuming you mean Blue 5s as there is only 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 as model numbers (incidentally, the 5 is nearer 60g).

Yes 5-s

The fitter told me it was a 50g shaft. Not sure of exact weight but it was about an inch longer than my Tensei Orange so was I definitely getting more out of it distance wise.

No....it's in your head.....completely. ;)
The finish on a shaft makes no difference to performance....you obviously like Matt shafts...

Doesn’t the Ventus shafts come in different models as well? I’m sure they did an non velocore version for TaylorMade or another OEM which should be much cheaper.

The velocore shafts are usually around £300 extra when getting fitted, not sure what they sell for second hand.

Golf is a game of psychology 🤣
Would guess he means non-Velocore models which were standard OEM fit across many of the TM models recently
yeah would be this. The stock shafts that come with the Qi35 would be the one I was after.

Not spending an extra £300 on the Velecore. Sounds like crazy money for a shaft

I have ventus blue velocore in my driver and 2 iron. In my opinion shaft is more important then actual club head.

Have you had a fitting for the Qi35? If so, why are you already thinking of changing a shaft that was fitted for you?

My Qi10 was ‘fitted’ for me but I’ve never got on with it. I really liked the Ventus but the fitter persuaded me to opt for the Kai’li which I went with and unfortunately have always regretted it.

I tried the Qi35 and really liked the Ventus 5-s in it, so swapped it into my Qi10 and bingo. Definitely the one for me 💯.

Even more confused now :ROFLMAO:
I take it you own a Qi10 - with different shaft. You swapped the Qi35 Ventus shaft (borrowed from the fitter)in the Qi10 and now want one of your own. Have I got this right?

Yeah, no point upgrading the Qi35 head when I only purchased the Qi10 in September.

I’ve gained atleast 30 yards with the Ventus compared to my Tensei Orange.

I’ve completely given up on the Kai’li

30 yards just with a shaft change?! Total?

Can you give us some details of your swing? Speed, launch etc?

Don’t have exact data but my Tensei Orange was a much shorter shaft than the Ventus so I was obviously losing a bit of distance there.

I was hitting the Ventus on Sunday around 270 yards with a ball speed around 150. As I was only swinging 80% as didn’t want to injure myself I would say the shaft reacted perfectly to my tempo. My swing speeds in the past have been just north of 105 but I doubt I was pushing anywhere near that purely because of the fact I hadn’t swung a club for 6 weeks.

Hit around 10 balls with my tensei orange and would be lucky to get past 250. The Ventus would carry that (indoor trackman so reliable feedback)

Having said all of the above it was more the launch / ball flight of the Ventus I liked. I was getting a lot more apex than I was before and everything felt pretty easy 👍

Nice. Sounds like we're about similar numbers. I've not been long fitted for a Project X Denali Blue, and I'm not sure if I like it or not... It launches pretty high, which might be ok, but I can barely get it to turn left at all. It can be very consistent but I thought I might get more distance over my previous off-the-shelf driver. That 250 carry number is the sort of magic number I want to get to.

From own experience* the Tensei Orange plays slightly stiffer than the stated flex and is a lower launching shaft than the Ventus blue.

*When I was fitted for Ping the fitter's suggestion was either the Ping Alta in stiff or the Tensei in regular.

Sounds familiar. I brought the G425 and it threw up some very good numbers when I first got into golf, although was spraying it around often.

Purchased the G430 and didn’t get anywhere near the numbers I was getting with the G425 so sent it back.

Now on to the Qi10 and although very consistent I am just not reaching the numbers I had with previous driver (G425)

Really hoping this shaft change is the one and I can leave it alone for the next 2 + years.

Love tinkering around but can be very draining, especially financially 🤣

The reason I opted for the Tensei is because it’s counter balanced which is what my Alta CB shaft was in my ping.

Unfortunately they play nothing like eachother

I’ve just been offered a Ventus Velocore+ 5s by a club repair specialist who I’ve used in the past.

I’ve rang around today and it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting the new stock Ventus released by TaylorMade for a few weeks.

Is this Velocore+ going to improve my game more than the stock Ventus shafts? And is there much difference to the velocore and velocore+

He’s after £220

Seems like a lot of money for a 15HC to part way with 🤣🤦

More stability which should lead to more centred strikes..maybe some more speed.
You may not get anything out of it over the stock shaft...only way to know is to try it.
