Anyone can enter - anyone can win. If you win you get cut 0.1 for every £ you win (winner rarely gets more than £15). Win a few times and you could find your roll-up handicap 3 shots or more less than your club one. You don't then win many more times that season. Roll-up handicap reverts to club handicap when the clocks go back.

A one time or very occasional visitor winning doesn't win that much so no big deal - and it's actually nice to hand over the winnings to a visitor.

Played in my father in law's club roll up as a guest a few weeks back. Only went and won it, was a decent sum too with 40 odd players.
I'm joining that same club after I move house so I expect I'll give it all back soon enough.

Yes, provided we are under our 36 limit.

Winner gets absolutely zip, and has to fetch all the beers from the bar. Takes ages, and is a real pain the the bum. For this privilege, he gets cut one shot for every shot under his handicap, plus one for winning. So 40 points means a cut of 5 shots.

It costs £7 to enter, for which you get up to two drinks, one when you come in, and one bought by the winner. Any spare cash after the two rounds gets left on the swindle bar card for the Christmas bash. Last year this amounted to some £1400.

The roll up i play in is absolutely open to all members and their guests but it's run like clockwork with a separate handicapping system , 4 x nearest pins, and payouts for front 9, back 9 and overall each week.

I've responded Yes to the poll as i recently joined a friendat a club he previously used to be a member of a few years ago for a roll-up.I'm not sure of the situation at my Club as i've only recently joined and know~5 or 6 guys whom play each weekend.
I was a bit nervous about 'playing away' off of 28hcp at newvenue, but i was advised "as long as i don’t shoot 90 on the day i'll befine"(shot 106 which considering ive not broke 100 yet I was happy with),we were greeted with such a warm welcome(and a hip flask) and had a greatround, couldn't of been made to feel more at home; round was a bit slow butconsisted of LOTS of friendly banter, some good golf, some Tiger-esque golf andsome poor shots, one chap even dropped his clubs off at the 9th and continuedthe round on foot without them as he was too hung-over to play. All the chapshad nicknames, which were backed-up by very amusing tales. Even in the barafterwards we were offered food and drinks and spaces cleared for us to sit.
For me this was great and exactly what i'm looking foroccasional with golf, just good fun and the opportunity for a beer afterwards.
