On the back of another thread I'm interested to see if any swindle that you belong to allows outsiders. (eg, guests or other members who are not in the swindle)

If so, do you apply a handicap cut and how many shots?

In the 3 years I've been part of one I've not been aware of any guests but as we play pairs or am am suspect no handicap cut would apply., will ask tomorrow .

Allow guests but it's mainly guys we know - their HC is normally adjusted by 3/4

I've said yes with restrictions, guests have to play 3 times before being awarded a handicap to win in the swindle.

We allow anyone to play with no restrictions, but as its on a Saturday there are no visitors anyway, all members with club handicaps being used.

Previous club swindle was club members only, new members couldn't win on 1st 3 rounds.

we don't have s swindle as such its a team thing and guests play in that quite often in summer. in our roll up on sat, its a very select group and ive never known anyone bring someone along that wasn't a member.

Our swindle is open to all members and so all who roll-up. Visitors and guests we accommodate happily but not sure if we allow them to win the pennies. I think I'd want them to be able to. The amounts of money involved are not significant and I think it shows a generosity of spirit to allow anyone to win - club member or not.

Yes, no problems and we don't faff about with docking shots. All winnings go behind the bar to buy drinks and chips etc, so it is not as if anyone is making any money. In fact not unknown for the winner to be out of pocket at the end of the day.

We generally allow any members to play, but because we deduct 2 shots off any winner, we tend to get stung a little of the non regulars as the weather improves and more people start to play again. It has been mentioned before regards not winning till they have played a couple of times.

Yep, taken along a couple of members with me who have played off their club handicap (one of them won at a canter which didn't go down well!) and will be taking along a non member soon as he wants to have a knock but I'm not a fan of playing 2 balls nowadays so I'll get him in the Saturday Roll up and take a fiver off him that way!

Guests aren't usually permitted before 9.30 and we are usually out long before then. There have been times when we've had some (usually ex members or potential newbies) and they are always welcomed and allowed to play off their club handicap if they have one. If they don't have one they are asked for a best guestimate. At the end of the day for £3 I'm not too precious about it all although if they do pull a fast one with their handicap we would cut them severely next time out

When I joined my club and got my handicap I turned up to one of the mid week roll ups one morning, introduced myself and everyone was very welcoming. We just use current handicaps. Great way to get to meet folks and find some playing partners. I guess if you run your own handicap system then it would be less welcoming to guests.

Absolutely.

in fact my swindle last week we had a guest win the front 9 with 23 points, shame it was odvan the git

we let them play off full handicap and we cut if the scores are above 36.

we welcome anyone and we have 2 guests this Sunday and if they want to join up regularly then they are more than welcome.

we had a members guest the other week who joined up with us and he liked it so much he has ended up joining the club, everyone wins.

one of the things that makes that difficult for us is that not having many members yet, we don't have enough to form a regular swindle all playing at the same time.
So what we do is allow people to go out early or late, leave their cards and then we go through them later in the day.

The downside is you don't get the buzz of a normal swindle with everyone in together, results known, winners announced etc.

The upside is we still get a good enough turnout to make a decent swindle as those that can't make a particular time know they can play at any time.

It's why we also allow part of the entry fee to pay for a drink after the round as clearly we don't know who has won until the end of the day and therefore don't know who should be buying the drinks.

Has its pros and cons but it works.

My previous club didn't have swindle handicaps but the winner was docked 2 shots for the following week. If he won again then a further 2 shots and so on until he didn't win then it was back to full handicap. Worked quite well, very rare for the same person to win 2 weeks in a row.

Yes, guests are allowed.

We have a draw for three-balls at 8:15 but club rule is that guests must play with their host, so there's a bit of tweaking needed. Play individual stableford, plus team comp of best 2 scores from 3 count. Guests need to have official handicap but if they have, they can win the money. Winners get a swingeing cut, and John the organiser has a long memory. Many a person has turned up after a long break - 3 years even - and the first word of greeting is "you're still cut three shots ..."
