Do you have a sense of Humour on the golf course?

If you haven't got a thick skin in our Saturday fiddle... the banter is wicked. Dare to wear something loud, or do something 'stupid' and you're gonna have a great time. I love it, and happily set myself up for it.

On here its a little difficult because the written word doesn't carry the humourous glint in the eye or barely hidden laughter behind the spoken word. 80% of the message is in the body language and the inflection... I try to be a good boy but I dare say I goof occasionally.

I like to think that i am the same person sat at my keyboard as i am when people meet me for real. life is too short to be a keyboard warrior, dont take life to seriously, there are proper things in life to worry about rather than golf. i have to have a sense of humour in my golf, if i didnt i would have given up! think imurg commented on my ability to laugh off a horrible shot when we played at Aylsbury, if i didnt laugh about i would cry or snap my clubs. no point in that!

I love a bit of banter, come from a cricket and rugby background, so its well and truly in my outlook.

have fun, chill out and dont post something here you would not say to someones face.

ok you might discover after a few holes its ok to say anything in this persons company but its better to wait and be sure than to say something and regret it .

My favourite experience of this was a mixed groups comp (sections stayed together but the groups were mixed) I was in a 4ball with 2 other fellas, and a lady who resembled someone's kindly old grandma. so for 6 or 7 the boys followed bad shots with such exclamations as fiddlesticks, whoopsie, you get the picture! 7th hole our dear old grandmother hits a poor shot possible into water then reels off the sort of expletives that would give you a weeks holiday from the forum. We all looked at each other and said "Ok I guess that's the all clear!"

I think the two questions in the OP are for very different scenarios

On the course I think we'd all adjust our banter level dependent on the other players we're with and how well they are known to us etc.
I wouldn't have the same kind or level of banter with guys I'm drawn with & never met before as I would with the regular groups I play in (this is true for all walks of life not just on the course)

On the forum you have to consider that your 'banter' will be read by hundreds/thousands and its easy to fall outside whats appropriate (imagine taking your 'mates banter level' during a round and addressing an entire comp field at an away course on the first tee with the same fervor & candidness!) If you'd say & do the same things in this scenario and are still physically able to play afterwards then your banter level is probably about right

Some folks amass an established post count (& any forum absolutely needs the value from these active participants) it doesn't however translate to an increase in autonomy or boundaries of acceptable conduct

No idea if any of the above is relevant to last nights goings on as being a few hours ahead I've no chance of joining in the evening sessions so its simply my answer to the OP

Don't know what happened, and frankly don't care.

Despite the written word being misconstrued sometimes, I think it's pretty clear when someone is 'bantering' and when someone is just picking an argument. There are a chosen few whom it's simply easier to avoid... generally because they're 'well hard' when sat at a keyboard. Normally they are the boring posters who need the support of their associates in order to maintain any sort of interest in their posts.

Smiffy for president!!!

I like to think i have a sense of humour, my attitude on the course is everyone quiet when shots are being played & yap and chat away between shots ,
What ya can and cant say in humour tho has to be dictated by the company you are in , they stuff we say among the lads we normally play with often has to be tone down or cut out even when in company of strangers ,

ON HERE .. i like to think i have yea , il give and take a slagging where possible , il discuss and debate anything anyone wants to , if it gets out of hand il say we will have to agree to disagree and leave it at that ..

I have never understood people who have ago at each other over trivial stuff , this is a forum , in the big scheme of things it counts for nothing, not in my life anyhow , i enjoy the banter , i appreciate the free comps, the freebies , and especialy the help and advice i receive in good faith from anyone that tries to help..

Love this, love everything about it!

Sense of humour is a must when playing golf in a bounce game. I do try to take it more serious in competitions although I can struggle to maintain it throughout a full round.

Didn't see any problems with Bombers humour and have met him a couple of times at meets and found him great craic, I'm sure we will get a game together again if he doesn't chicken out of it for the 3rd time

What you see is what you get with me and I'm no different with the way I talk to people on here and on the course. I like a laugh and a chat, but do like to focus on my golf too. Its like everything in life and about finding the right balance. I've taken some hard knocks on here and given some back too so not immune to the fire fights on here, pre-MikeH warning and infraction notices.

There are plenty on here that have met me on here and so you'll have to ask them if I am as expected. All I know is life is too short not to have some fun and a laugh on the way and if you've seen my golf you know I have to have a very good sense of humour especially when I need to chip

or on this furum?

The guys I play with all have a laugh and a joke at each others expense and its all good humoured, we even have silly names for each other.

But with Bomber 69 getting a lifetime ban I’m thinking some on here don’t.

I never took offense to any of his posts and didn’t mind being called a chomper or weekend warrior one bit, it is the truth after all.

So come on guys do you have a sense of humour and like a bit of banter… or would you rather not?

What a load of nonsense ... How fragile is life when you've got to tiptoe around high handicapper's? It's a fairly gentle statement and when your stuck behind 4 x 15 handicapper's on a Saturday they could get called a lot worse!

Well put.

Big bomber is a gent. Did me a huge favour and brilliant price on some wood. A very helpful man who I will miss
