Typical the one evening i'm not posting and I miss something that warrants a life sentence.

I've never had issue with Bombers Weekend Warrior or Chompers comments, there were things we disagreed on but thats the bature of a forum and opinion. That being said I would presume it was more than his usual comments that lead to the subsequent ban and the MODS do a good job and if it was deserved then so be it.

As for the thread title I love a laugh and banter, on and off the course and even though I've not met most on here I take comments light hearted and give as good as I get but try to do so having been aware of their previous posts to show their humour side. Not much gets me annoyed except when people basically attack others with gorunds unwarrented then I may get my back up.

But it is what it is, let the banter continue and people can rib me no issues but expect it in return for the light hearted banter it is..

Well said

Banter to me is off the cuff witty remarks, and not repeating the same old lines over and over and ......

I like to play in total silence, so I can concentrate fully on my game and my 463 swing thoughts and pre shot routines.

I'm not going to get into the specifics of individual infractions or bans but I will say the following

All users receiving an infraction or ban have it explained to them why they are being sanctioned

In all cases to date users who have been banned have been warned (sometimes repeatedly) about their conduct and the implications of not modifying their posting style laid out clearly

The decision to issue a permanent ban is mine and mine only and is not taken lightly but when I feel reasonable warnings have been issued, but ignored

A lot of issues the moderators and administrators have to deal with are a case of judgment. Golf Monthly and the appointed moderators act on the side of caution so even if you think what you have posted is OK it doesn’t mean GM/mods will.

I will use the maximum level of infractions and sanctions against forum users who in my opinion are trying to stir up bad feeling (flame) on the forum

Anyone who is confused about what is and isn’t acceptable on the GM forum please read...

As I've said before - if you don’t like the rules or cant accept the decisions of the moderators and administrators then find another forum to post on

There's a massive difference between course banter and forum banter though, isn't there? You're on the course with 2-3 of your mates and your banter is restricted to that small group. All the lads who have played with me from this forum know that I like to have a laugh on the course.

Banter on a forum is visible to anyone and everyone though. That harmless little "in-joke" might upset one person that you've never met/spoken to etc. Sometimes you have to be careful and self edit quite a lot. It's why I don't really post that much anymore. There does appear to be a growing number of people who take offence quite readily at the moment.......

or on this furum?

The guys I play with all have a laugh and a joke at each others expense and its all good humoured, we even have silly names for each other.

But with Bomber 69 getting a lifetime ban I’m thinking some on here don’t.

I never took offense to any of his posts and didn’t mind being called a chomper or weekend warrior one bit, it is the truth after all.

So come on guys do you have a sense of humour and like a bit of banter… or would you rather not?

Eh, what did I miss????

Sense of humour? Do you need to have sense first?

Seems perfectly reasonable to me!

got to have a laugh at the golf cos its only for fun. perhaps if i made my living from it i would be a wee bit more serious (not too much)
im all about the fun fun fun.:p

if you ever play with an irishman dressed in green pushing a pram, youre guaranteed a laugh

What someone is like "in real life" is irrelevant. If you act like a knob on here, then on here you are a knob. You can't caveat it with what you may or may not be like "in real life".
No idea what went on last night as I wasn't on here, but I can't say I am overly surprised.

He wasn't the only recipient of black-balling last night.

Seems a bit more than mismatching senses of humour. The anonymity of a keyboard and screen can have quite an effect, not alays positive.

I'm sure we'd happily take the mick out of each other (or not, as required) on a Golf course. There's only 2 people I wouldn't happily play golf with! I do know of 1 who has refused to play with me, though I'm not the only one in that 'club'!

I'm quietly confident that number will continue to rise!

Would like to think I've got a sense of humour on both. Can swear with the best of them on the course but wouldn't get overly worked up with a playing partner and would like to think I'm not rude / boring (probably am) on the links.

Lipped out several times on Sunday and after it happened again on the 18th for 36 points, my playing partners couldn't help but laugh. I'd have been extremely disappointed if they hadn't have.

Well said that man :)

I like to think i have a sense of humour, my attitude on the course is everyone quiet when shots are being played & yap and chat away between shots ,
What ya can and cant say in humour tho has to be dictated by the company you are in , they stuff we say among the lads we normally play with often has to be tone down or cut out even when in company of strangers ,

ok you might discover after a few holes its ok to say anything in this persons company but its better to wait and be sure than to say something and regret it .

ON HERE .. i like to think i have yea , il give and take a slagging where possible , il discuss and debate anything anyone wants to , if it gets out of hand il say we will have to agree to disagree and leave it at that ..

I have never understood people who have ago at each other over trivial stuff , this is a forum , in the big scheme of things it counts for nothing, not in my life anyhow , i enjoy the banter , i appreciate the free comps, the freebies , and especialy the help and advice i receive in good faith from anyone that tries to help..
