Do nice guys win?

Reminds me of Seve. Not only in matchplay but he had this goign through him in the majors as well especially paired with a someone near him on the leaderboard

“I look into eyes, shake their hand, pat their back, and wish them luck, but I am thinking, I am going to bury you.”

Yeah just read about it. Harrington is spot on for me. It would be more unusual if Rory did chit chat the round away - especially if that atmosphere is helpful to Bryson.
Of course, he recently lost a battle with Bryson in a major, so I imagine he just wanted to block him out completely and forget about who he was playing against so he wasn't susceptible to any minds games. Makes sense, and it worked.

An innocuous comment suddenly gets blown out of proportion and a player becomes the bad guy. Such is the way of clickbait media now.
Yep, everything is rage baiting for interaction. More clicks means more money. No room for accurate and sensible reporting when you are after those clicks.

It's why I never venture anywhere near cesspools like Twitter.

Lot of chatter this morning about Rory not talking at all to Bryson last night. No words between him and Scottie at the presentation. Seems Rory is not that popular amongst his peers. Woods was the same on the course.
So can you be a nice guy and still win?

It ignores Rose, Lowry and Fleetwood all being around (appreciate Rose was in the playoff) to warmly congratulate. Plenty of players like Rory, Spieth and Rose seem nice and win. I would though say all sports people have an edge about them and aren't always going to be fully rounded people given the selfishness need to reach those heights.

The primary example of someone who does seem too nice to win (or win as much as he should anyway) is Fleetwood. Doesn't have much in the way of killer instinct.

Full four minute interview

Bryson sounding like any golfer who shows up on the big day and "has a mare!"

Nothing more, nothing less. Someone chopping two bits together as click bait. The modern equivalent of a newspaper banner headline.
Cheers for posting. So basically it was well edited for social media, missed off the bit about Rory focusing (hence no chat) and also how he felt empathy when he hit it into the water on the 13th. He was annoyed with himself, was answering question after question, no slight on Rory at all.

Media trying to twist things eh, whodathunkit.

I think he comes across okay. A bit different but also very human. It's good to have a bit of character, not be another media trained drone.
BDC has changed over the years

He just like Rory has said some silly things ( Augusta being a par 67 for him ) which have come back to bite him a little and then he went through just smash stage and long driving etc and came across a bit weird in interviews

But recently whenever he has spoken it’s a bit more humble and fun and just trying to enjoy it

He looked gutted in the interview and that’s going to be expected

He is just himself

Even that is a silly example. He was talking purely in terms of length when somebody asked him if his length would be a big factor, since he can comfortably reach all the par 5s in two plus one of the par 4s (3rd I think). Obviously worded it a bit wrong, but it was still blown out of proportion as usual.

He did definitely has changed though, just grown up a bit I think and was less uptight, more relaxed in interviews and so on. Of course his YouTube channel allows people to connect with him more as well. Doubt we'll ever see a YouTube channel from Rory.

As someone early said - Rory isn’t about marketing or being a brand so we won’t see any sort of You tube or podcast etc - his time is with his family or playing comp golf - that’s his focus

Just before they tee'd off, one of the 5live commentators had watched them both on the range warming up. Rory was doing his thing, but Bryson chose a bay, 2 down from Rory deliberately in his eyeline. It was just them 2 on the range.
BDC was also ramping up the crowds and lauding it. Rory sorted himself out after the first few holes then completely dominated BDC who by now had stopped his low 5'ing the crowds and trying to ramp them up.
He came across as the big muscled bully beaten by the skinny kid.

Who cares? At their level it does not matter a jot. Rory seems popular enough to me. I hope Rory ignored Bryson because he was concentrating AND that he is a liv golfer.

And yet he is on the PGA board and has been asked to be involved in resolving the LIV dispute. What about his sponsors and keeping them happy
