So finally the waiting is over and i'm 4 weeks away from getting some new clubs. I pretty much know what clubs i'm getting, some mizuno mx300's, but i'm wondering whether there is any advantage to either

getting custom fitted at my local pro shop where the fitter is also my teacher

or

going to Mizuno in New Malden and getting custom fitted there given that i'm almost certainly getting the MX300's...

any experience or thoughts people??

Go to Malden if it is anywhere near convenient. You will get an accurate fitting, and the shaft choice is probably more important than the head, but you might be surprised by what suits you.

You can also look at hybrid sets - MX300 for part of the set and another make for another part. This is now pretty common and Mizunos are priced per iron anyway.

Even if you end up with 300s standard loft, length and lie and standard shaft,. you will have more confidence it is right for you.

yeah thats what i'm leaning towards, there is absolutely no way i'll end up with anything standard i think, for a start i'm 6'4" so regular length shafts just wont cut it for me

it still all depends on your swing i know lads at the same hight that have been custom fit and because of there swing get standered length shafts

World of Golf at New Malden or World of Mizuno as it should be known. A nirvana if you want their gear and top quality fitting team who'll take the time to make sure you are happy. Not far from my mum's place so I have used it a lot over the years.

Homer - do they charge RRP on their mizuno stuff then....as that would make a bg difference to me!

You don't have to buy from there.
Have your fitting session, the fitter will make suggestions as to the best stuff for you and give you a written "prescription".
You are then free to shop around to get the best price for the gear you need.
I did this and saved myself a tidy packet.
;)

+1 on Homer's comment. Most people either take the prescription back to their own pro, or ask one of the online retailers to order it, and you should get the same prices as those retailers charge for off the peg stuff. Having said that, I suspect WOG is competitive.

Agree with that, the fitter that I used at the Belfry basically told me to take the prescription away and look for the best deal as their pro shop charges RRP on everything. Did that, saved nearly £100 on price then used the £50 pro shop voucher that came with the fitting to buy a wedge.

So, in your bag....

"Taylormade Tour Burner 10.5 degrees
Cleveland Hi Bore 3 and 5 woods
TM Burner 3 hybrid
TM Tour Preferred Irons 4-PW irons
TM Z TP wedges 52, and 58 degree"

Hardly a recommendation, Homer

:D :D :D

Sounds a bit like when you have a session with your pro, go to the range to work on it, it doesn't work so you come on the Forum for advice :D
