Please take deep breaths before reading the following thread.

I was talking to my Pro the other day when one of the 'players' at my new club came in carrying his 3 week old set of custon fitted Mizuno MP-57's. They were fitted at the Mizuno factory in Cumbernauld and made 2' upright as that is what the computer said he needed. By his own admission he hit the ball well off the matt and board but then;

When he got to the course and played off the grass he was all over the place because the ground gave different resistance to a matt and allowed his club to take a divot, so he wanted them sent back to be made standard again.

So in order to be accurately fitted should you actually play from grass?

I whink I will avoid CFing in future.

What’s the blokes handicap? Is he 6 foot plus?

I agree that custom fitting at times can be not for all golfers. But this golfer will be playing of hard fairways in the summer (hopefully) Couldn’t he go for 1 upright to get best of both?

I got mine 1+ degree as it was recommended, tbh I have not seen much difference except I have to stand a little straighter, the ball flight is better and I seem to be hitting more straight shots rather than bad slices with irons, maybe this could be more of a mental thing due to having the clubs changed.

I feel custom fitting is something everyone including pro's have different views on what's needed and it seems everyone and their dog is adding to the process and changing this and that.

I had a custom fitting session yesterday for Callaway X-20's. Seems I need standard everything being of normal build, normal swing, normal height. So I bought the normal clubs right there and then !!

Should be an interesting thread this.

I got custom fitted on a mat to. Think most people will have

At least he got his Mizuno irons from the cumbernauld factory.

Got yours yet Toad?

Im the same as you ColinR. However, I have completed a few online fitting questioners and they have all come back with different, none being standard!

Strange that as I did a Ping one and it came back as one less tape and 1+ degree & 1/2" off shaft, I then sent one to NB's and they came back as standard grip, lengh standard and 1+ degree, I though best with the NB one as if the Ping was wrong its a lot out of sink.

Wrong!!!

Custom fitting does work. I have shaved 6 shots with a set of custom fitting clubs. I do not believe for one moment that there would be a huge difference between hitting off a mat and turf. In my opinion, it is a case of the player not being totally confident in new equipment and maybe having a flaw in the swing

StuartD still have not heard where my Irons are, terrible service from AG apparently they have to re-order from Mizuno and refuse to do so as they fear they will be stuck with them if the others turn up.
Mizuno have a receipt from the courier to show they were picked up and are on route to AG and the courier has delivered to AG but looks like they have lost them.
I phoned them last week and cancelled as I am fed up waiting, will change them at the end of the season through my pro if I am still struggling with my Nike's.

it looks as some people are getting different results from different CF sites, imo this isn't going to work because different manufacturers will have different specs on grips and shafts and different ways the clubs are bent at the hossel giving you a different lie etc, clubs are'nt all made the same the same as your swing, everyone is different which probably brings into question, which has also been mentioned before on the forum many people will not swing the same at a custom fit session as they do normally.

I have this week been getting myself custom fitted for a set of irons, and the process has taken two hours on wednesday, and another 1 and a half hours today (Im leaving in about 30mins) and this has been done through my clubs pro, who has all the facilities to offer a great custom fitting experience. I have therfore tried all the possible clubs (im in a sort of dilemma as there are too many to choose from, all of which seem to be brilliant) from both the grass range and off of mats with a vector launch monitor meaning I get the best of both worlds. I therfore think with this being my first experience of it that custom fitting does work, and that the fact the guy this thread is in regard to obviously got a poor fitting process in not a reflection of the capabilities fitting has of improving someones game...if it is done correctly. I just hope it works for me.

Custom fitting your clubs for lie angles and shafts etc is fine on a mat, if you play off grass your going to take a divot, think of how many mats youd get thru,

You could take Custom fitting out off this thread and call it

PRACTICING ON MATS DOESNT WORK because when i play on grass i take a divot!

I have pings, does anyone know how i'd go about getting them fitted as i was told its free.

Minty
You can get them fitted at the Ping fitting centre at Gainsborough GC, this will be free and they will adjust them there and then if it's just a case of lofts & lies. Obviously if you need new shafts or grips then that will cost.
I've had them done at American Golf before and a driving range near me but they were always wrong and when I got them checked at Ping, they corrected them for me.

Does it not take a little time to get used to the new length and adjustments if you have been used to something else in the past. I whilst a beginner for the second time have had some custom Callaway from a golf course in Cowbridge Wales. I am obviously inconsistent but have been assured by friends that they all had a period of adjustment but having got used to the new clubs are very happy witht he results.

I'd like to agree with the comment hitting off mats doesn't work. I don't like to practice iron shots on the range type tee so always put on the mat but then find that the club can be effected from bouncing on the mat behind the ball where i would normally take a divot.

Thanks for that, stupid question but i take it you have to book an appointment?

Lads I know the custom Fit arguement can go on for ever but i'm a strong believer in doing as the proffesionals do or at least do as much as possible as they do.

Tour players, even good amateurs are fitted. I couldn't imagine tiger woods just being given a standard set of clubs by nike.
