Talking to my son who probably palys golf 4/5 times a year and would struggle to play oof 28. His comment was I had 3 pars today and he was so pleased.

My response was that I had a reasonable round but missed a couple of 3/4 foot putts.

We then went on to discuss the positive/negatives of the game of golf which made me think that all I was talking about were the negatives, not the 20 foot putt or sand save.

Where do you fit in this scenario and if like me perhaps you just want to get better!

I try to be half full although it's not clicking at the moment and I'm not enjoying it, I'm not playing this weekend in effort to just try and chill...... Last time this happened I quit for 2 years and hope it don't happen again

After a round i always think about where i went wrong and tell myself how i could possibly improve on them errors/cock ups :). Then i think of all the positives and enjoy thinking them back to myself and tell myself that the good things i did today prove that i can play well and i can build on it.

You have to identify where you can improve imo but i always like to make sure i use the positives to give myself added belief that i can play to a decent standard.

Are you drinking it or pouring it? If neither then the glass is too big.

It's easy to be self critical, acceptance of shots that work and aren't quite perfect as well as bad ones is a skill worth learning. Focusing on the postive images to come out of the game and reinforcing them in your head as opposed to negatives is often advocated.

Speling!

Don't be a chuffin tart OS - you are too good for talk like that!

Answer to the question - looking to buy a new, bigger glass!

A lot is down to your expectations.
If I shot 74 but only hit 4 fairways and greens I wouldn't overly worry about the misses - more the fact that my short game's working well. But if I shot 84 and hit 10 fairways and greens then I'd be looking at my short game/putting and dwelliing on those misses and mistakes.

I always look for the positives and try to store them. I'll look for the negatives and learn from them - hopefully.

It's seriously gone to pot chris, have no interest in playing in the near future. Any ingrained swing seems to have been deported only to be replaced with an epileptic axe murderers swing..... It's not pretty

I think Imurg has hit the nail on the head for me.

For example, a couple of weeks ago I felt I had a dreadful round, driving was all over the place, irons missing greens. Came into the club house and the guys noticed my mood and asked how I got on, I explained my thoughts about how bad I played with drives all over the course, and when quizzed I said I shot 78.

Well 2 days later I get a message asking WTF was up with me, as I came third in the medal and got cut 0.8 ... obviously my mates thought my "78" was nett not gross !!

So I guess that day I was definitely half empty ... As most days are!

I generally have glass half full approach to life, so I try to look for positives in golf too, sometimes a bit hard if I half just taken over 40 putts in a round though (positive aspect, look at all the easy shots I can pick up)

My glass is half empty.............but my bottles half full:whoo:

Took 45 putts at the weekend:angry: but positively only 40 other shots (incl 2 penalties) so when I sort out the putting to the high 20's or early 30's I'll be scoring well

Definitely a glass half full guy this year. Trying not to worry when it goes wrong and enjoy the rare rounds it goes ok. Somewhere in between is fine too. There will always be things I'd do definitely or shots I'd like again but it'll be what it'll be now

Every day is a nice day but some are nicer than others.

Or, when I wake up on a morning stretch my arms and don't knock against wood I'm happy.

Always positive because I am lucky enough to be out on the course playing the great game of golf...but always looking to try and improve

If I hit poor shots I am always trying to take the positives in hitting them better next time

"Its aw in the heid"....or something like that

Nether for me - I work on the parts of my game that didnt perform as I would have liked the last time out in the week and aim for improvement. Then I repeat the cycle. Sometimes there is more to work on than at other times!
But it is what it is and my way of thinking, if not realistic, puts it in the wrong light.
