Cross country scramble

Tomorrow we've got a fun comp. a cross country Texas scramble. Drawn teams and open to all members (including junior section) with handicaps.
Not played a scramble for a few years but have enjoyed them before the cross country bit is going to make things different and all DMDs are not allowed to keep it interesting and really test your distance guessing. Anyone ever played something like this before

Love the idea, not sure about the no DMD rule but wish our club ran a similar comp.

Cross country is a laugh a 1000yd hole is always interesting!

We play it over 9 holes the day before our Captains Day, we call it the Course mix up, ie 1st Tee box to 2nd Green, 5th Tee to 7th Green, good fun and good mix of distances, 1 or 2 around 100yds to some over 600yds.

From what I've heard we got some really long ones also some 100yard or less but you either got to go over trees or around. Hoping for a good laugh and some reasonable golf to match. Maybe even meet different members through the draw

I once arranged one when parts of the course were snowbound, great fun and kept the clubhouse bar busy.
We had two holes..one out and one in. Both about 1000 yards long.

I tend to play this most weekends at the moment although not by choice. I've done this a few times and love it. Our captain at the time came up with nine corking holes

Must say it sounds a right laugh.
Summut' different, good fun, and a great way for members to mingle. :lol:

Don't think our club does this, or even heard anyone ever talk about it.

We have "the overlander" on New Year's Day. Played over 9 holes. Good fun. We don't play it as a scramble but as drawn pairs playing in eightsomes (4 balls) Strokeplay.

We play this as a 9 hole Friday evening event with bar food after, its always well attended and good fun. we also have a similar event called The Greenkeepers Revenge - enough said !!

I played in one at Pyrford which was both insane and fantastic at the same time. Until you've played a 700 yard par-six in and out of the driving range, you really haven't lived. But you need two decent players in your scramble team to have any kind of a chance.

We have a 9 hole cross country every Boxing Day but never played it as a scramble.

Same here.....and have you picked out the new holes you'd do for this on your own course - I have.

There is a few you cant extend, but thinking:-

1. 1st tee to 2nd green.

2. 3rd on its own.

3. 4th tee to 5th green (cant go down the 6th fairway, temp OOB)

4. 6th tee to 7th green (must be about 850 yards) Par 6 or a par 7?

5. 8th tee to 10th green (need a draw, then a fade).

6. 11th tee to 12th green.

7. Just the 13th - easiest hole in one possible.

8. 14th tee to 16th green.

9. 17th tee to 18th green.

What dya reckon?

Love it. the 8th tee to 10th. which green? The big one? blind shot over the green keepers hut.

We've done this for the last couple of years, managed to get a full 18 last time (we currently have 21 holes available to use)

One important thing for course planning is to ensure safety of competitors. With balls flying around in different directions than normal it took ours a while to be sorted out simply to ensure people weren't at risk to wayward balls.
