Club Yardage...

Does it matter how far everybody else hits their 7i? All I need to know is how far I hit mine, I don't care about anybody else because it's not really relevant to my game.

The number of times somebody asks what club are you hitting ?.... They then change clubs based on what somebody else is hitting, even though they probably hit a different yardage with the same club! It's crazy..

Is the correct answer.

IT DOES NOT MATTER!!! THE GUY ASKED HOW FAR YOU HIT YOUR CLUBS, HE MAY JUST BE INTERESTED... YOU GUYS ALWAYS GET SO DEFENSIVE!!!

If you don't want to tell him then don't, but what is the point in coming on and crying about why he wants to know... if you don't want to answer the question the guy asked then don't... opt OUT!!

He may simply want a mental average so that he has something to aim at.

Im not building a secret life trying to be you guys!!! I am just new to golf and rather than asking someone I play with who is equally new I would prefer to ask people who love golf enough to be on this forum everyday...

Is there any harm in seeing what other golfers average with certain clubs, and as Alex said why bother taking the time to moan on here. Best of luck with the new season guys I have a great time laughing at people like you who moan when its too hot or too cold too light or too dull and look forward to picking faults with everything instead of enjoying the game.

All the best,

Id be inclined to think this way, also as so many aspects, weight , height , flexability & even club manufacturer come into play .. also course conditions would come into play , say for instance 130 yards .. as this is as the saying goes between clubs for me , on a nice day with firm fairway id try rip a PW at that . if the fairways were soggy id be inclined to go down the shaft n a 9 iron ..

but to answer your question & give you an idea i supose

Pw 120-125
9 130-145
8 150-160
7 160-170
6 170-180
5 180-190
4 190-200
3 200-215
3wood up to 260 ish
driver .. anywhere 250--280 i think

Hope this helps

Chaps for what it's worth here's my yardages... Hope it helps.

Driver 300
3 wood 270
3 hybrid 245
4 iron 220
5 iron 210
6 iron 195
7 iron 175
8 iron 160
9 iron 150
PW 140
52° 120
56° 110
60° 100

These are my regular straightish/ draw distances. If I fade it then it's 5-10% less!

to be honest i am unsure of my exact yardages currently other than an 8 iron is 145-150 from there i would add subtract 10/12 yards per club but i am planning to have a play on a launch monitor to establish these correctly

Similar to me tbh.

The only one I've ever had measured was when I was fitted for my driver and the average was about 270-275 iirc.

If I'm 150yards out, depending on conditions, it will be an 8 or a 7 and go from there.

All the best,

Two weeks ago i played 9 holes with another forummer (full-throttle) i had a shot of 150 yards into the 7th hole,i hit my 8 iron to about 20 feet from the pin.Full-Throttle asked how i managed to hit my 8 iron so far,as he took a 6 iron from a similar distance,i asked for his 9 iron (Ping G10) dropped another ball and hit it to 8 feet from the pin.
Different iron sets have different lofts, different shafts etc,so no two sets will hit the ball the same distance, factor in different swing speeds etc,and everybody hits the ball different distances with the same iron.
As with most threads on this topic, this will become a "whos got the biggest tadger" contest.

I see where you are coming from with the I can hit it better than you contest but this really was to get a rough Idea to someone who has just started to really take a big interest in the game it genuinely is helpful to hear.

I dont think anyone is able to tell me to the cm what they hit a certain club but if I add everyones and average them out there really isnt a massive difference... yes 20 yrds is big in golf when you are getting that handicap down but like I say I am someone who is very eager to be a good golfer but without asking questions I wont get anywhere. This forum has cleared up so many things and gave me a new perspective on areas of the game I hadn't even considered before...

Also the who has the biggest todger thread has been started in OOB. Please give based on conditions.

Dont worry Dave, the I can hit it further than you thing is not about your post, it just a natural GM Forum member thing.... We like to lie to one another...

With a forum its always about picking out what info you want from the posts as most of it is opinion. Some people will help and some with bitch and sometime the people that helped last time are the people who bitch this time. My little outburst was because there is a habit here of some people to comment just to let you know that you asked the wrong question and then they will answer the question you should have asked.

My only problem with this is that people are saying "summer" yardage or "normal" yardage - but to my mind there's no such thing. Granted you need to know approximately how far you hit each club because that's your starting point for club selection - how far is it, which club goes that far?
But when you look at the shot there are so many variables to take into account and the danger is falling into the "it's 150 yards so it must be a 7 (or 8) iron" mindset. Play the club and shot that'll get you nearest to the hole and the only way to know which is to practice them...

Also, I used to play a lot with a mate, we played lots of Inter-club and other matches as well as Daily Mail comps etc etc.
He was almost exactly a club shorter than me.
So if I knew what club he'd used, if he'd got it right than I'd know instantly which club to choose. If he was short then again I knew.
So taking into account what someone else has hit can be useful as long as you know their length in relation to yours (clubs!!)

You're right, of course, but I haven't got the time (or inclination) to give him a detailed breakdown of yardages at different times of the year, out of different lies, with different weather conditions. I'd fall asleep before I finished typing it!

Driver - jury is out.
3W 230
5w 215
4I 190/195 (200 on a good day)
5i 180
6I 165
7I 150
8I 135
9I 125
PW 105
52* 90
58* 75/80 max

im not long by any means, a guy i play with hits he's 5i about 235/240

I must say you have some odd distances there OS. I have the same clubs as you and my 7 iron is about 150 same as you, but then about 10 yards between clubs.

20 yards between 9i and P wedge is far to much, then you only have 10-15 yards between a 52 and 58

Have you had your lofts checked?
