Thanks matey, I think I need to work on the face angle and in to out degrees. From what I gather 5-6 degrees is about the limit tolerance for this. if im finding 7's, 8's and 9's then that needs addressing, the alignment sticks wouls be a great tool as you said. The clubs are Titleist MB 710s having had AP2's for around 5 years and more recently MP37's (about a year and a half ago) which were lovely but found I hit a lot of fat shots in the winter with them. I had a quick fling last year with Maxfli Revolution black dots which have larger heads and if anything struggled more with them.
I have a lesson booked for tuesday week so will see how that and some range time works out. I do feel I reach for the ball a little so might see how standing an inch or two closer goes though will take advice on that too. :)

Went through similar last year, swing path was getting as far as 7,8,9 degrees in to out. controllable with the shorter irons but had become a real battle with the longer clubs. Spent a lot of time trying to swing the club "left" to neutralise the path with a fair degree of success. Got a feeling its slipped back a little so may be time to use the drills I had then again

Range time is all but alien to me these days and it shows. My handicap has zigzagged its way from 6.0 to its current 9.5 and Im calling time on mediocrity. :) I am determined to sort this asap but balancing work, home and all else I know it wont happen overnight.

good luck with it, you obviously have some good stuff going.

think the channel drill a real good ways to go

mb's real good clubs for sure but tolerance levels with strike are real low, miss center by a few tenths heel or toe, or on the vertical axis, low (you can get the flier) or high (you can get the floater that goes nowhere relatively) & the fall off in shot results to consistent distances can be pretty big

for sure looking at the #'s - distance isn't the problem - you have enough to shoot par - it is control of strike, through path, face angle, AoA so maybe's a focus on balance through practice would be real useful also

center strike more neutral path/less face rotation/good AoA at 80% effort in balance is going further & more accurate than - a flat out swing out of balance - & with this it's a ways easier to have the path coming from a little ways stuck behind you as you get a lateral & forwards hip thrust with a better player, so you then you can get the 9º's of path etc & the hands react so you get the face rotation sometimes ways easy to fall in a spell of hitting right & left.
