Club Websites

Ours is plain and simply pish with a capital P!!!

It's meant to be getting redesigned this year.

webcam from the 1st tee box would be a great shout IMHO. check the conditions before leaving, and also have some LOL's at some inevitable 1st tee duffs!

I love my club & course, but the website is very bad.
It seems judging by most of the comments this is not an uncommon complaint.

I think the clubs are being very foolish by not investing in a good quality website full of relevant information.
In this day & age, the internet is most peoples first port of call when looking for a club to play at or join, these clubs would get their money back many times over from extra visitors & prospective members if the websites were better quality.

Even simple stuff like an official picture of the captain helps, not a go at your captain, whoever looks after your clubs site should take a look around, plagiarism isnt a bad thing when it comes to making the most out of your club website.

Ours is functional but it isn't great. We have a members area but again not great. I'd love to see contact details etc and there are other clubs utilising both the public and members areas far better than mine. Add in the reluctance to embrace social media as a marketing and communication tool and we are still a long way off from effectively communicating with membership and attracting members and visitors

Brenda, yours is amongst the best ve seen, what sort of stuff does your members are have and is it used an d worthwhile.

Ultimately the website may be what entices visitors and potential members but a good members area could be invaluable to the members

Our general website has everything the visitor could possibly need. Plus the same with the members only section. No complaints from me.

Not picking oin your response too much DV, well maybe ;) but in all the items listed above, what would be of interest to a visitor? Course status, yes, webcam, yes - but the rest are 'Members Only'....would shout 'keep out non members' to me

Surely this a window into the club to attract those who know little or nothing about it - not a members resource?

As a 'nomad' what I look for is loads of pictures of the course, a card of the course, visitor information and relevant information on membership subs and perks (i can dream).

Just my twopenneth

You are quite right snaphookwedge and well spotted, ours is a club within a club so to speak so it really is I suppose geared towards the members, theres another main website just for the courses etc and thats what the visitors would probably go to first, course card and pics of everyhole incl flythrough etc etc

People who put photos of their Club Captain/Chairman etc on their websites should be struck over the head with a chipper!!

Social events, fixtures, results updated weekly after comps, club news, conditions of play etc and other documents released as and when the club decide.

Lol Woah Nelly, I mean that if you are going to put a pic up, make sure it is at least a decent effort.
We do have a committee section hidden away with photos of them so we at least know who to look out for barging their way onto the tee :D:D

Ours is decent enough but lacking really badly with no pictures of the course next to the description

Everything is open to all with the exception of booking times, we use the BRS system, so it is kinda open(ish).

Yes but these type of pictures... http://www.bangorgolfclubni.co.uk/the-club/officers-council-members/ just scream 'Stuffy, stuck up,pompous sport where outsiders will not be welcome or fit it' even if it isn't true.
I mean, who the feck as a visitor is interested in the blazers??

These type of photos should NEVER,EVER be anywhere on a website.

Dont start me bout ours, hasnt been updated for long time. I complained to the club and they basically said theyd binned the fella who was meant to be doing it as he was crap! Only good thing is the online booking system, the rest of it is pants for such a good established club!!

So you are saying you are not a fan of blazers then? perhaps if they wore clown costumes and a honk honk nose? :D
That part of the website is for potential and existing members to peruse, visitors want to know what the course looks like, cost and availability.
If everything media was like that, the Sun newspaper would never get past page 3, freeview would only have channels 900 and up etc etc.

As I said, it is hidden away from the main page so if you want to look, go right ahead, it is personal preference to read beyond the typical visitor interest pages.

Our members section is linked to something called intelligent golf, which is very good. You can bring up all your old comp score cards, there's scoring annalysis per comp and per hole, handicap trend, scoring distribution, you can enter all comps online, you can compare your card to other players in the same comp, kind of a matchplay thing, all in all very good

Regardless, it screams elitism Brendy and that, is my opinion ,something clubs should be trying to steer away from.

5,000,000% agree its appalling. I brought it up at the AGM and was told its being looked into and will be done this year hopefully. Its so basic and outdated I cringe. Especially when you consider we have some fantastic scenery all around.
