What is your club website like? Do they have a members only area? What sort of things are on it and what is good/bad about it?

Our club are looking at updating ours and are asking on suggestions for content.

My club has a basic website that has a members information area but it's not restricted to member only view. It just contains what's going on in the club and events etc.
The rest is standard fare with course images and details of the courses.
See for your self search Muckhart Golf Club.

Useful Links (Congu, R&A, Scot Golf Union, European tour etc)
Contacts (Captain, Secretary, Match Sec and VC emails and mobile numbers)

Plus a seperate log-in area for members to book into competitions, see all their scores (Masterscoreboard) and ability to print of your h/cap cert

Don't get me started on club websites, I hate ours so much. I'm a web designer by trade (although lost track with it all in the last few years) so every time I look at our website I cringe. Overlapping menu items, poorly placed literature, more wedding stuff than golf stuff, rubbish text and poor formatting......it drives me insane.

The contacts thing is a good one I reckon with a small thumbnail headshot of their ugly mug. Then new members can bug the handicap secretary with ease.

Got to agree, every time I go on it I cringe. I don't know the first thing about web design but I'm pretty sure I could do a better job of it!!

Y'know Swanny that is very odd as just down the road from me is a course called, yep, Forrester Park and it's the same. I know the owner (which is why I refuse to join there!) and he reckons they make 60% of their annual income from wedding functions so it's more business proficient for them to push the wedding side (as he reckons that the golf speaks for it's self - but how he figures that without proper advertising is beyond me (and I'm a Business Analyst by trade!)

It seems as though anything that NEEDS improving at our place isn't, anything that doesn't need improving is.....if that makes sense. Still, can't argue at the membership price for us......questionable about the full price fee once I turn 30 though....£795!!

Yeah at £400 for under 30's we can't complain. I will probs stay til then and hopefully by then will be earning well enough to join a better club that may be a bit more local to Chelmsford.

You should offer your web design services to Tim, can't hurt to ask.

I'm an HTML designer by trade, for design wise I wouldn't be able to knock up something fancy enough as HTML sites are mainly text based. Don't have the time either, hence why I have lost track of things over the last few years.

Not picking oin your response too much DV, well maybe ;) but in all the items listed above, what would be of interest to a visitor? Course status, yes, webcam, yes - but the rest are 'Members Only'....would shout 'keep out non members' to me

Surely this a window into the club to attract those who know little or nothing about it - not a members resource?

As a 'nomad' what I look for is loads of pictures of the course, a card of the course, visitor information and relevant information on membership subs and perks (i can dream).

Just my twopenneth

Brendy thats a class website for your place , beautiful photos , nice one of your pro with TomW & Rory .. the 16th tee one looks class ..

Aye Brendy, that looks like a lovely track indeed.

Thanks gents, it doesnt quite look like that right now but from April to October its a lovely track. There are a few round this neck of the woods too if parkland is your thing.

We invested in a new one about 9 months ago and it's had over 16k hits so far which aint bad for a wee club....it was not expensive either. It is still very much work in progress but has a members area for news etc and is night and day compared to the old one which was horrific but I am struggling to find the time to do what I want with it so may have to delegate it to someone else but being a bit of a control freak I may have to just make the time!:smirk: http://www.hirselgc.co.uk/

My home club website has just been upgraded but it still isn't great IMO but it's an improvement on previous.http://www.goswicklinksgc.co.uk/
