Last proper working day today. Only me and one of my lads in, so we've just treated ourselves to a decent order from Greggs (delivered too).

Officially "working" tomorrow, but will be at home and will be mostly full of beer and mince pies.

No Irukandji on this side of OZ......but in the early 80's when I was in Cairns they were everywhere, hence no swimming in the surf, I was lucky to be told by a local just before I went in at place called Clifton Beach about 15 miles north of Cairns, not a hotel to be seen, now they have taken over.

Think we stopped around Clifton on our campervan drive from Cape Tribulation to Byron Bay…glorious places but little or no swimming.

Re the pie mash. You would be underwhelmed. It’s a minced beef pie with mashed potatoes and parsley sauce. Which may have been made with the water from the stewed eels. Served with vinegar (chilli vinegar if you fancy) and pepper… It’s nice but nothing special.

That would make a nice lunch for me three days in a row. Good portion size for one person. Yum.
Eaten cold it is more of a summer thing for my liking - accompanied by salad or raw veg.

Mussels and whelks no problem…nice couple of stalls on Oban’s Railway Pier for them. But jellied eels…not awight guv…
