if you did the same shot with a 7 iron it would be a chip & run, thus the action is the same. No?
I love chipping. For me it's about soft hands, feel, and imagination. Technically I practice controlling the low point on a variety of different shots. I often use a 7 iron to chip, use it like a putter.![]()
That's the method I use when not playing links, or from a fluffy lie. Works very wellI like playing golf shots and don't worry too much about my scores so I mostly play mini-lob shots around the green. On days when it just isn't working a toe-down, shaft upright putting stroke with an 8-iron is a pretty foolproof way of chipping the ball onto the green. But it's boring. I own an old Ram chipper that achieves the exact same result, but that's boring too. If I was worried about my scores I'd probably just use the chipper all the time.
Greens in regulation is definitely something to look into...!So after posting this yesterday, I played and stuck with 1 handed…
2nd - 20 yards away put to 6ft
4th - 20 yards to 6ft again
5th - 20 yards to 6ft again - missed putt
11th - 10 yards to 4ft
12th - 15 yards to 6ft - missed putt
13th - 15 yard duff, put next one to 8ft
14th - 10 yard bit thin to 25ft - missed putt
15th - 10 yard to 3ft
16th - 10 yard to 8ft - missed putt
18th - 25 yards to 6ft - missed putt
So up and down 4/10…maybe need to hit more greens![]()
100% worth it IMO. I was lucky to see him before he started teaching tour Pro's so it was cheaper but I did have a follow up lesson with the wife 2 weeks ago. Quickly tidied me up in 5 mins then Got the wife chipping brilliantly.£240 for 2 hours I guess would be worth it if that was all I needed to ‘fix me’ for life!
A little update after having played around with a few different things including ball position/club/posture/stance etc and before splashing out for a proper job lesson!
A mate of mine (plays off 2 and whose chipping is tremendous) noticed a big flaw in my chipping action yesterday. I’ve got the old elvis legs/chilli dipping going on. It might not be a total cure, but when I quietened my legs down/stopped a ‘sway’, I seemed to not fat and thin half as much.
It’s a starting point for me anyway so will see how I get on and hopefully see some more consistency.
