I understand that but, that could happen on any hole, not just a par 3. Better players are, or should be more accurate but some par 3's if long and narrow could be a nightmare for some H/C's.

Our 5th is a Par 3 and stroke index 5. 224 off the back tees with a 180 ish carry over a crevice/water. Bunker right and OOB left. Very often into wind. The green is one of the fastest on our course and slopes massively from right to left. Beast of a hole.
I don't get two shots on it but I really wish I did!

The thread has received quite opposing reactions to the OP’s achievement (well done btw) and perhaps as mentioned the side issue of handicap allowance or where higher handicappers should tee off from should be on its own thread as it has the makings of a good discussion topic (I’ll wager not for the first time either) but the h/cap format is what it is and the OP can’t be blamed for that
Announcing news on a public forum will more often than not leave it open to opposing responses whether its low scores, new clubs or whatever it is i.e being a little boastful about a new set of Slazenger irons would hardly go down well in all quarters
Given the context, the reactions are I guess understandable and even natural (whether you/I agree with them or not)
The OP’s a little euphoric with a PB and wants to share his success story, while the golfing audience on here contains some very good players who might want to put a little perspective on the actual achievement

im not a fan of such long par 3's. complete lottery for most folk. I prefer short par 3's where people can have a real go at getting close to the flag. I always try and get people to play closest to the pin on the shortest par 3. otherwise it turns into, anyone on the green.

I agree with this. All but 2 of the Par 3's at my track play over 200 yards. No what you'd call a "Gimme 3" for a club golfer.

A forum by golfers for golfers ??, who all love the game of golf ??.. or so I thought .. been honest here guys the op was over the moon at his score, the same as loadsa other people in loads of other threads ,, including my own 1st hole in 1.. other people who buy new clubs , who shoot personal bests etc etc ..Il be honest here and of course is just my own opinion not a fact but some people have come across very poorly in this thread & they weren't even in the same comp as the Op , to those who don't like high handicappers claiming the prizes , play scratch cups , problem solved .............. haha well it's been a good few years since I was afforded the luxury! but will get a some more to play with in our mixed foresomes this year as my partner get's significantly more than 1 per hole!
and just to bring back the thread to it's original discussion, I won those trousers with a +1 gross in an away comp

in 2010 I shot 47 points off 19. I was exactly 18.5. I went up the day before after shooting 20 odd at castlerock in an open.
the guy who came second was playing off 1 (I think) and shot 7 under and shot 46 points.
it was my second year and I was unaware that i hadn't paid my gui fees for the year and couldn't collect my prize. in all honesty I think I would have felt like an imposter.
the prizes should really be categorised imo.

Nobody is slating the guy, we are only discussing the point that anyone getting 2 shots a hole need to take a long hard look at their game, I am sure with a bit of practice and more effort they can improve.

So there you prove again, proof is in the pudding. Even after a 1 handicap golfer shoots -7 scratch he can't win. Hence why the handicap system is so flawed!

By the way don't it just burst your bubble when you hit a great shot into a hole with nearest the pin only to find out that some Cat3-4 guy duffed it of the tee and is bounced its way to the green and got inside your shot, just not fair is it
