He was always a bit of a legend around here.
A legend in Hull, a legend in the Labour party. Huge figure for quite a period, crucial to Blair in getting elected and staying there. Very much respected within labour, and I suspect grudgingly by opponents as well.

Always championed Hull, never forgot where he was from.

And a brilliant public speaker. Some of the current crop are truly insipid in comparison.

I can't help but think he'd have a chuckle about the news of his death being closely followed by the Jaguar rebrand story...
You sure it wasn't the other way round - he heard what was happening to Jaguar and decided it was time to give up?

A bit like how the Queen couldn't face dealing with Liz Truss as PM.

(Apologies if there's some unwritten rule that black humour is not allowed in this thread)

I did think that but wasn't sure how well it would be received!!

Olivia Hussey. My first crush.

Trooped into the school hall to watch the end of term film...Romeo and Juliet. I was 14 (she was 15 when the film was made a few years earlier) and almost immediately I was completely and utterly smitten in a way no other girl had ever before touched my heart strings.

She has been in my minds eye ever since I was sat there at the end of a row in the school hall staring almost disbelieving at her beauty on screen...and I do believe tears came to my eyes at the film's denouement.

RIP dear Olivia - I never knew you but I think the 14yr old me loved you 😥

EDA..for those who have never gazed on her beauty…

Was working to the end of October, so just a few weeks, true pioneer of his craft 😔
I think Mr Walker who is one of those who loved his job and retirement was never for him. Me I was born to retire, but if you love your job, the alarm goes off and you enjoy turning it off to go to work. Fair play to them.

Bless his cotton socks.

Thanks SILH, is that radio 2remembers Johnnie Walker?
It may be on that, but what I listened to was his final Sounds of the 70s, when he did ALL the choosing so he could have his favourites. Though I’ve just checked both the App and the website and they only have from when Bob Harris took over start Dec.🙁 Pity it was a great selection.
