Back from the range and just been hitting the ball better than ever before.

Used my convex mirror and noticed that my grip was wrong - left hand V pointing towards left shoulder, right hand V pointing towards London (so left hand very weak and right hand very strong). This was causing difficulty in producing lag and untold other problems with timing and accuracy.

Changed grip (both Vs pointing towards right shoulder) and after a few shots I couldn't believe the difference. Improved distance and accuracy with the irons. Much crisper, hitting down and through the ball much easier. Now smacking the ball like you'd smack the pert bottom of HID with a paddle. Beautiful. B E A U tiful!

Good to hear Tim, keep it up

Have a similar problem at the moment, my 2 hands are fighting each other with a strong left hand but a much weaker grip with the right hand, however, unlike you struggling to find the right solution currently.

Glad you've found the fix but it is still on the range. You need to be out playing some holes most nights and learning the nuances of the game.

I disagree. I could have played 100 rounds and not found an improvement. By standing on the range, analysing, performing and then perfecting, I feel like I've made a massive leap forward. Practice to learn, play to win.

stick to the range tim, the course is for playing the range is for practice, you would have never noticed what you were doing wrong tonight if you were on the course keep at it mate

any sidehill, downhill, uphill, long grass, low branch tree lies on the range? :o

None of those. But the course doesn't have a convex mirror either. My view on practicing is: if you can't do it on the range then it won't magically appear on the course.

Forgot to add (for anyone interested): I also found that my right hand was sliding further and further down the shaft. Now I concentrate on squeezing the hands as close together as I can get them. The wrist action for lag production now seems much more natural. I'm still gobsmacked at the difference.

:D

Equally, just because you can do it on the range, doesn't mean it'll magically appear on the cours.

Now you've found the cure Tim, it's time to get the rounds in and build up some real course experience - it'll only help your game.

Yeh, but if you have practiced it on the range, should come a bit more natural when on the course

I told you that weeks ago but you didn't listen.
The grip is one of the first things any pro would check and would have spotted your poor grip in 2 seconds flat. At least you're on the right track now.
But as others have said, get out on the course and put your theory into practice.

Tim this is starting to sound like it should be X rated (sorry showing my age) I mean have an 18 certificate. ;)

From the way you started to hit your long irons on the back 9 on Monday something certainly started to go right then. Was this Eureka moment a result of analysing the things you thought you were doing wrong on the front 9?

You did mention that Bob - I remember now. Thanks for the advice. Funnily, my pro didn't pick up on it either (maybe it didn't show during those lessons).

During 240 balls tonight I topped just 2 shots so I feel that problem has been solved now (stance too narrow, not shifting weight through the swing). The grip issue was something completely separate. Fingers crossed.

Another one of your posts quoting an article from the Chicago Post says it can take 10,000 balls to groove a swing change. Sounds like you've done your grip change and grooved it in about 5! :D :p

I wouldn't cross your fingers - that will give you a dodgy grip :D :D
