I believe that rickg was formally a member at Aldwickbury Golf Club. I played there a couple of years ago and thought it was OK.

I know exactly where rick was a member off and we play there twice a year

But the point still stands - his current club is a country mile better in every aspect

Centurion is about 5 levels above OK !!!!
As they spent about 6 years building the place, I would hope so. How does it compare with The Grove, which is also run by Troon Golf as the UK's most expensive P&P? More importantly, how much does it cost to join there, as their website gives no details?

It will be better than the Grove when the course matures - the layout is better , the wow factor is better and the overall atmosphere of the place is better.

If you want to know how much it is then contact theme

Far better than the grove for me, better course, better layout and far more a golf members club feel than the corporate feel of the grove

as for cost, if you have to ask.......

I don't think I know of any decent modern course that has taken less than 5 years to build! Can you name any?

.....you probably can't afford it! So hardly an inclusive golf club!

I have given some thought about where I would go if BPGC ever goes belly up. I think my favourite would be Sandy Lodge, which is a nice old fashioned club built on well drained land, followed by Northwood or West Herts. Centurion is not on my list! Apart from anything else, it's close to where I used to work and I don't want to have to repeat the commute. :(

Apparently they can make a new course in a matter of weeks in Dubai and such places. Just bulldoze a few sand dunes, roll out some turf and Bob's your uncle! :)

It's very much an inclusive golf club - makes all members feel very welcome and even more so their guests - it's very much going to a very friendly family welcome club and believe you to be out of order making judgements against the golf club based on nothing.

Cost and how far it is away from where I live. If I wanted to spend a lot of money, I would join Moor Park, The Buckinghamshire, or Stoke Park.

Agree with LP here

Centurion is a superb place and once the clubhouse is finished it will be even better,
it is always best to make judgements on a course after you have played it and not before,

Returning to Brockett Hall, having played both courses (prefer The Melbourne)
it is a travesty that people are paying large sums of money for "Lifetime membership" and then losing those rights when the course is sold on.
there needs to be some sort of legal protection bought in to stop this as it really is wrong.

Just because it's not ideal for you to join doesn't mean it's not an inclusive club. It's better than both Stoke Park and The Buckingham as well.

Hopefully there is something in the contract they signed when they took up the life membership that protects them.

Actually probably not, if the original club or company goes into receivership. At best they will be unsecured creditors. As I explained earlier, the debenture holders at BPGC seem to have lost out. In theory they should be able to sell their debenture on to a new member when they leave, but as new members are no longer required to buy a debenture, this is unlikely to happen. BPGC is now in a rather odd situation. The course is built on privately owned land with a 99 year lease. The clubhouse is owned by the members, but the course is operated and maintained by Crown Golf who claim any profits made (although they may have to take any losses as well). This arrangement sort of works, and should see me out (I hope!)

I understand that Centurion is an arm and a leg type course owned by Troon Golf. I also know that it took years to build, because I used to work in that area. I haven't yet played it (any chance of a invite?) but is it really that much better than your previous more traditional club?

Point 1: it isn't owned or run by Troon Golf. Troon Golf have simply been contracted to provide an Agronomy service.

Point 2: you have made it abundantly clear on many occasions that you totally oppose the Trump, Wentworth, etc type of course set up, so surprised you would entertain considering playing at Centurion.

According to their website, Troon Golf claim Centurion as one of theirs:

Centurion is not owned by Donald Trump or the Chinese, so that is OK by me. :)
