There is a lot of positivity coming from people range work and I'm pleased to say I had a good time tonight too. I've been working on the posture again, standing slightly closer and taller but with more knee flex. However the key has been that before if you look at my videos the backswing keeps going until I start to overswing and the head goes up. I'm sure that is causing the compensatory lifting action on the downswing.

Tonight was all about a MUCH slower tempo (another evil - too quick) and making much shorter swings. My word. Everything felt so joined up and co-ordinated and went as far if not further (hard to see in the dark with dodgy range lights and my bad eyes). I'm playing with Hawkeye tomorrow so it's bound to go tits up trying to match his 40+ points but it'll be interesting to see how I go. Definitely something to work on.

I had a mixed night tonight.

After the comments from the TM guys yesterday, was trying to focus on my shoulder alignment and trying to stop my swing plane from being so "out-to-in" which was all contributing to my slice.

There were still the odd pushed shot, but mostly, the "good" shots went straight or had a slight fade (which is fine). I did find that was I straight pulling alot more shots as well though, but I'm hoping that (and the bad shots) were all a result of the changes in my setup and swing that I'm trying to incorporate.

Hopefully my lesson will help even further and give me some drills and stuff to focus on going forward.

It's good everyone I'd moving forward, homer like you I have found a short back swing has better flight and also about 10 yards longer on each iron. I think a shorter swing is the new me for 2011 too, now go out tomorrow and rip it!

Hope your good swings continue.

I had a good session on the range today, just working on my flexibility and stability after such a long layoff. My ball flight is a lot lower than it should be but i can sort that out in the next couple weeks. Got a soft draw going too which is not like me, think that's more to do with my body action being a bit sluggish.

Shorter backswing has done wonders for me too. I think that trying to get the text book club pointing down the line of shot position is too far for me , i have'nt got the flexibility for it and go out of shape getting there, then have to rectify that on the downswing . By just going back as far as is comfortable the errant shots are reduced with no noticeable loss of distance , infact with better ball contact distance is slightly better

Surely, surely you guys might get something back for all the time you put into your games cos you seem to have had precious little back so far.

Do you think that less practice and more competitive game time might be a solution?

Dodger, I fell apart last season through being slack and if I'm honest should have crept up to 18 atleast, this year I want to get to 12, and I will get there

I knew you'd do me proud on the scoring average homer, keep it up!

I had the best driving round of my life after someone told me my shoulders were open at address. It feels weird pulling my right shoulder backwards (is how it feels to me) at address but boy it worked for a while at least.

I hardly ever go to the range so it's not natural yet and I forget a lot. Normally remember as I'm picking which tree on the right my ball will be found near

I very rarely use the range , find it really uninteresting, i try and play once a week , if i get out any more than that then it is spur of the moment and usually alone ,maybe only to play a few holes, it is those times on course that is about all the practice i do.

Yea, it feels *really* weird and like my shoulders were closed! But I kept checking the alignment by placing a club across my shoulders to check they were pointing in the correct direction. It definitely helps! Just need to get it bedded in naturally now!

Well I had another really good session today at the range with my strengthened grip, but I am pretty sure that when I take the lesson I had bought for me as a Xmas present the pro is going to ask me why my driver face is pointing at my left shoulder at adress. I only know that at the minute it works.

I fully agree

Huge difference between my friendly game scores and competitive scores....... :)

I play competitively, and non-competitively as often as I can and I agree it's the real test for you're game.

But I do really enjoy working on the range. Especially after work. Just helps me get the day behind me.

Summertime I don't spend much time on the range,if I have time after work I'd much rather play 9 holes.

My pro has been re-building my swing for the past 3 months, and I tell ya I've come close to quitting the game a few times it got that bad.

But things are finally starting to come together.

He started by changing my swing plane. It was quite flat, now is more upright and I get a much fuller turn of the shoulders. Backswing feels much more controlled.

And guess what. Shorter back swing and slower swing :D amongst other changes.

I'm still having trouble with weight transfer and release because of all the other changes.

e.g. I'll concentrate so much on a good slow takeaway and path of the back swing. Then just snatch from the top, get stuck on my back foot and don't release.

Now my back swing is feeling more natural and I don't have to think about it as much I have been able to focus on transfer and release.

Last night was probably the first time I felt things working in sync without having to think about every little detail.

So it feels like I should be just about ready when the season starts. But who knows :D

just remember guys its how you play on the day,not what you
did on the range the night b4,too many slaps on the back from mates who are just as bad as you are, just doesnt cut it
