It was always going to be a sad and tragic outcome, but a body has now been found thought to be that of young Alice Gross.

Now I want to know how a convicted murderer was not only allowed to enter our country but was also not fully investigated and looked into when a sexual assault charge was brought against him previously and suitably deported!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29438235

This now also coupled with the Paedophile teacher who has topped himself and again information was known about him years before and local police were given reports 9 months ago about him and did nothing!

Priorities seem to be failing the vulnerable from evil, what needs to be done to change this, technology is vast now and were an island so why are we experiencing these heinous crimes?

The convicted criminals and the known deviants seem to be more of a concern when it comes to their 'human' rights than the victims, we need a government wit a spine who will stand up to european do gooders, sadly we don't have a party who has the steel to do it

And a police force who are quite happy to catch you speeding but have been seen on tv far far too many times apologising for basic mistakes that have had tragic consequences. They always trot out, like all the apologists, that measures have been put into place to stop a similar event happening again in the future and then, a few months later, they are back with a similar apology - but hardly anyone resigns or is sacked?

My understanding is that the police in the UK were not aware that the man concerned was a convicted murderer when he entered the country. At that time the police from all EU countries were not pooling the information, only certain ones were. By the time Lithuania and the UK were sharing information he was already in the UK and so under the radar.

But he rose from the radar when accused of a sexual assault around 2yrs ago, unfortunately the young lady didn't see it through to the end but at that point they were then aware of him and his past, and did what, nothing until the next young lady became a murder victim not just a victim of assault.

With today's technology and being an island, I really can't understand how we can't monitor everyone's movements in & out of the country and vet everyone more thoroughly, Australia seem to have a good handle on it, why can't we?

Isn't the suspect - and he's still only a suspect at this stage - Latvian? And as Latvia is/was part of EU, there would have been no checks.

And I don't believe there's a great deal of 'information pooling' going on even now!

This guy has not been found guilty of the crime yet so we cannot say categorically he did it.

We have become scared to do or say anything about issues that offend us now incase we are accused of being racist, homophobic, right wing, bigoted and so on and so forth. We run scared of the European Court of Human Rights, the EU and Liberal elite that have taken away our freedom of speech and long held right to stand up for what we believe in.

We need to grasp the opportunity to break away and snap the shackles that are holding us back so we can take control of justice and common sense.

I said elsewhere on the forum that i wanted to live in Davao Philippines in a few years , there they have little or no crime as they shot scum like these people if they hang around doing crime after being warned to get out or stop , over here we let them in, give them benefits and protect them and their human rights while they abuse the system and others human rights and then we pay their lawyers to defend them for crimes they carry out against us , there lies the problem , some on here had a go at me as i said i would live over there like that , well i say this , would you feel the same if thats was your child , at 56 i have never been a dad but my 1st will be born in feb next year and its a girl , i would protect her and god help anyone who harms her or try too

I realised I had got the country wrong 5 minutes after posting but it did not allow me to edit. The point is the same though. If countries don't share information, and Latvia did not with the UK at that time then the police are left blind. There are checks at borders, free movement is not entirely correct as otherwise we would not need passports, but when this man entered the UK his crimes were not not showing up on our systems.

Your last sentence is something I think is also sadly true. Seems crazy in this world of computers and databases.

Well this is a friendly thread. I see the usual lot spouting their half truths and bigoted nonsense have got their say in.

The main suspect who police want to speak to has a criminal conviction in another country where he served time for murder. Some may say that he's paid his debt and should be allowed the freedoms of a person without a conviction. That's not for me to say, however if we don't then what is the point in letting people out of prison? Is it a one strike and you're out approach? If that is the case, what exactly do people that get convicted have to strive for? If they have nothing to lose, what is to stop them re-offending?

All of those questions aside, let's be clear that although he looks like a good fit on the face of it, he's still an innocent man until proven guilty.

I agree that better sharing of information between countries should be implemented, so high risk offenders can be identified and handled, but let's face even if we did have the information available, he still would have been allowed in.

Not sure that catching people speeding and catching murderers has to be mutually exclusive to be honest?

Also can you provide examples of these events that keep happening and the police keep apologising for?

Look at you with you well reasoned and sensible liberal elitist views. We should bring back hanging, it's all they are good for. ;)

There aren't any, but instead there are a few reprehensible, mostly unforgivable but ultimately extremely isolated incidents that get a disproportionate amount of coverage by certain sections of the media in order to forward their particular agenda.

I wish you good luck in the Philippines where contrary to your believe they have a homicide rate some 8 times greater than here (source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate).

I think a lot of people's problem with this is that certain countries, USA, Canada and possibly Australia, wouldn't have let this guy in to their country in the first place...
Most murderers are handed a Life sentance - although they may serve as little as 10 years, they are on licence for life so even though they have served their time they are still "on Probation" of sorts.
Why should they be allowed to come and live here...?

There are areas of this country that don't have much crime, but manage it without paramilitary death squads patrolling the street or whatever Utopian existence they have.

The area you talk about has crime - the death squads doing the unauthorised paramilitary killing
