Since coming back to golf after a long lay off due to a neck problem. I promised myself I would not let myself get bogged down, with teaching books DVDs ect.Did this last time and got so mixed up in my mind so&so does this but then so&so does that. I'm sure a lot of you can relate to that.So this time I have stuck with John Jacob's book and DVD (old but good). But its killing me not to go out and buy everything I see. The temptation is so great its almost like a drug. Must not weaken

I reckon a fair few of us suffer the same symptoms

read this, watch that etc etc

the only thing I have seen recently that has made a dramatic difference was the Phil Micckelson short game dvd... hinge and hold has made me a demon round the greens.... for now

right, must get back to my other 15 dvd's and 7 books I have on the go

still got my JJ book, best and simplest there is, however, Pete Cowen DVD looks promising

My advice is to get a lesson and let a pro see your swing. Chances are he'll spot any major flaws in minutes, give you the fix and some drills to work on. Much better in my view than self analysing (been there and got very mucked up)

You ramble away.

I hardly ever read books these days, and I've never watched DVDs. I tend to go for a lesson (now and again) or just hit balls or ask for nuggets of advice on here.

a lesson is always worthwhile as the pro can tell in a few swings what you need to work on.

I however have a slightly sado masochist streak and like to try and work it out for myself. I had county lessons when i was younger and they practically destroyed my game, as my feet were aiming slightly right and the bugger wanted them square. Never mind the fact i hit every ball straight down the bloody target line! After that it was 4 months of everything being out of synch and terrible scoring, and i was a really good golfer at the time.

In saying that, pro's are far more geared towards teaching these days, and i think they accept that club golfers will have flaws and try to get the best out of it.
