Am I alone in wondering how the BBC spends it's 5000 million pounds every year ( yes I think that adds up to roughly 13 million a day).Take for example, the same derivative cookery/antiques/celebrity rubbish served up day after day after day - how much can it cost to turn out this crap.

Sport - they have the nerve to flag up golf's declining popularity when they have systematically year after year slashed their coverage. Part of the BBC lefty agenda no doubt. " Golf - Far too middle class" which it, of course, isn't

What do they now serve up as their ration of sport - darts, snooker and flipping indoor bowls - are they taking the Michael?

And salaries, if Lineker is still reputed to be pocketing more than a million quid per year what are the rest of the so called stars getting? In fact, we should know. This is public money. If we can be entrusted with knowing the PM's annual salary, we should surely be told who gets what at the BBC.

The BBC have to cater for every single person and evey single area that people like

The sport coverage has been slashed due to the increase of costs - the BBC can't just cater for sport lovers

Nope, they spend it on a large number of TV and radio stations and the BBC is arguably the best public service broadcaster in the world. Yes it makes some crap but it also produces some great programs. As a parent, Cbeebies and CBBC are the gold standard of how to do kids TV, just compare it with the commercial homogenized horribly over acting crap you get on Disney Channel. I would also argue the BBC and it's long standing commitment to playing any type of music on the radio without adverts is one of the main reasons why Britain punches well above its weight in the field of music on a global scale. Think of all the great comedy shows, most of them have been on the BBC, plus this year they have given us Line of Duty, The Missing, Sherlock, The Fall and Pesky Blinders. Not crap really.

As for sporting rights then instead of blaming the beeb for not being able to spend a relatively large amount of money on the TV rights then how about blaming the golfing authorities that sold the rights to commercial TV, knowing full well the coverage and therefore publicity the game gets on terrestrial TV would be vastly reduced. Or the massive commercial organisations that base a lot of their business plans on buying up a lot of sporting rights, so they distort the market which means that other terrestrial broadcasters do not have a hope in hell when it comes to competing. It's quite simple nowadays, if you like sport then get Sky Sports.

And a soon as every public sector employee publishes their salary on here then I am sure the BBC will do the same. I happily pay my licence fee just to avoid adverts to be honest and also content that is then dumbed down to avoid anything that may scare the horses so it can appeal to the biggest audience to the advertisers get the best returns.

Well I know it's all a question of taste.

But great comedy shows, on the BBC, really?

Fools and Horses, Blackadder, Monty Python, Dads Army, Faulty Towers, The Office, Vicar of Dibley, Yes (Prime)Minister, Porridge, The Fast Show, Little Britain, The Young Ones, League of Gentleman, The Thick of It, Gavin and Stacey, etc etc

The BBc is overstaffed, they have a very top heavy management structure who get paid way beyond their abilities. Just look at their news, they seem to have a corespondent in just about every country and on every subject, do we really need to have someone stood outside No 10, the White House, Buckingham Palace and so forth to report on a trifle of news which can be reported from the studio. While we are on about the News, why does it take two people to read a report and why do they all need to make those pathetic hand gestures when talking!

I guess it wouldn't be right if i didn't mention their left of centre political bias and how they continue to blame all our ills on the Governments unrelenting cuts to expenditure. They are typical of the money wasting public sector who still dont get it that they are spending our money and not the Governments.

Ah! feel a bit better after that :sbox:

Actually the best thing about the BBC is that The Daily Mail hate them. So they must be doing something right.;)

Isn't kind of the whole point of reporting on news events that you have to be there to find out what is going on for yourself? Also if you want news reporting with a political bias then try the US. If you need to find out the facts on a story then you get it from the BBC, if you want a political slant on a story then there are many other commercial organisations that do that.

The beeb has its fair share of faults but i still like it. They need to up their game with regards to certain programs but they also show, and have shown, some stuff which wouldnt see the light of day elsewhere.

So when Nicholas Witchel talks outside the gates of the Palace he has just popped out to speak to us.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about more recent productions, all of the above are now somewhat dated.

As for management of resources i.e. our licence fees, the BBC have not got a clue.

Just compare their staffing levels at the World Cup (272) with those of ITV (120) and yet both were showing the same number of games and how necessary was it for 300 BBC employees to be at Glastonbury.

Overall I think they do a good job but my word don't they know how to spend/waste other people's money.

If they are to compete with commercial organisations then their financial controls need to be tightened. Either that or they should be restricted to being purely a news and education service.
