So in line with what many have said, the BBC reporting of golf is getting pretty poor as time progresses. Iain Carter talks about ‘growing the game’. Apart from the leaderboard, the ISPS Handa Victoria Open is getting zero column inches on the BBC website.
The Vic Open here on Australia may not the biggest tournament, but it had been co-sanctioned by the EuropeanTour and LPGA. I believe I’m right in saying it is being shown over there in the UK on Sky? Why is this significant, well bothe the men’s and ladies are playing concurrently on the same course, alternating between ladies and men’s groups. (Yes, some tees are slightly moved up for the women, as any right minded person would expect).
The biggest part is that both Ladies and Men’s tours are playing for equal prize money.
I think that taken these points into consideration alone that Iain Carter and the BBC should be pushing the positivity of this event. She may not be everyone cup of tea, but Christina Kim’s appreciation and enthusiasm for being allowed to play in amoungdt the men’s groups was plain to see. Dame Laura Davies also spoke very well on how this could raise the profile of the lesser tournaments with this format. Meanwhile, in the States, the PGA Tour have are pandering to the celebrities that do not need further exposure at Pebble beach. Meanwhile the worldwide ladies tours that are suffering with little sponsorship support and infrequent competitions. The PGA and the pebble beach tournament would be richer for having the ladies as per the ISPS Handa and ditching the celebrity love in....in my opinion? Thoughts ladies and gents?

The BBC have funded a podcast each week called The Cut, with Iain Carter and Andrew Cotter.

The Vic Open was mentioned on this on Wednesday and they had a discussion about the format, the field and the future. Sadly not too many big stars from the Ladies or Men’s game in the field.

Unfortunately the timing of Australian golf could not be worse for a U.K. broadcaster so credit to the BBC and Sky for doing anything as it is just not going to get much interest through the night.

Fair comment mate. And totally get the time zone problem (I try to watch the premier league through the early hours of Sunday mornings out here, and end up crashed out on the couch!) I was not aware of the podcast. I digest most of my content via print, hence the comment on my perception of the lack of coverage.

I listen to The Cut whilst I'm walking my dog. Carter was very vociferous in his support of this tournament but I suspect he is losing the battle with his bosses regarding column inches. They also raised the issue of Justin Rose being world number one and getting no recognition outside of the golfing world.

I find the BBC sport website hugely frustrating at times. Plenty of golf happening, UK golfers involved and competing and yet you have to dig deep to find it. Want to find out about some joke snow related skateboard style nonsense and it will be front page......🤬🤬. Golf isn't cool enough for the beeb, too middle class in their eyes, incorrect assumption.

I’m confused because anytime there is a current golf competition going on it’s there on the front page on both the desk top and mobile site ?

Just look now and there is the report from the first day’s play and about the guy who made 9 birdies in a row

Just went to the Skysports page and the only golf news on their front page is at the bottom and the headline is about Huey Lewis ?!

And I remember when Rose got to number one it was on the front page of the BBC website -

The stories are there ? And if they aren’t on the front page just click the golf button

I've noticed in the last couple or three weeks, that the sport report after the news on the Absolute Radio breakfast show has read out golf news from whatever tournament was in action. It wasn't a lot of info, just updates on a few Brit players and the leader etc, but thought it quite interesting to hear it suddenly appear in the agenda for regular comps, it usually only appears for the majors. Maybe the they have a new News Producer who's mad on golf :D

It is being shown on Sky, started at 8am yesterday and this morning. Looks a good format and the crowd are able to amble down the fairways following the players and there's quite a few 'on course interviews' with the players, both the men and the women.
I gave up the hope of the BBC showing or having any interest in golf a long time ago. They say it's down to the cost of coverage, well I wonder how much £ they plough into Wimbledon each year!!

Been watching this morning, it's quite good coverage on SKY, flitting between the guys and the gals, as MHWGC states, a fair few on course interviews with players of all genders, and good to see the fans meandering down with the players. Not a huge amount of fans by any standards, but I guess it's Friday, hopefully more around tomorrow.

More BBC good Sky bad.
Sky are actually showing the event, with highlights for those of us who don’t want to watch during the night. That’s a broadcasters first job. Their web pages are secondary.

The thread was about the reporting of the event and nothing on websites - maybe have a read first and you will see the context the reply was meant it in - as opposed to just blurting in - we all know that Sky are showing the ET and BBC aren’t - that’s not new news , the BBC don’t have the contract to show the ET.

Just to help I’ll say it again - the thread was started and other responses were about the “reporting” of golf events not the broadcasting of them

Not interested in getting into the BBC vs SKY debate as I enjoy both.

Also enjoyed watching a bit of this, good idea having both men and ladies out on the course.
What do people think of the course, I think it looks a cracker.

Got to be honest, unless it's the Lions or England rugger or Ashes cricket, I have no interest in sport from Oz, simply because I like to watch or listen to it live and being 12 hours out of my sync means no interest from me.
It may be blinkered, but whatever the Australians are doing isn't really of any concern for me, and whilst I like to watch ladies golf the over abundance of the characterless automatons from the Far East just turns me off.
I do like Iain Carter though, he definately has golf at heart.

Thanks for your “help”. Much appreciated. However, the thread was started about the BBC’s reporting of this particular event. The OP said “Iain Carter and the BBC should be pushing the positivity of this event.”
You mentioned the reporting of Sky. No-one else did. My point was that at least Sky are broadcasting the event which is what a broadcaster should do. Surely allowing us to watch an event is preferable to allowing us to read about it?
Whenever the BBC is mentioned, you always jump to its defence (fair enough) but you do this by favourably comparing them to Sky, which usually doesn’t stack up. You have done so again here.

In fairness Sky were mentioned in the OP and first comment although from a broadcasting stand point. It didn't seem unreasonable for someone to mention what had been put on the BBC website and compare it to one of the largest UK sporting news websites as comparison. For my mind, both actually do a good job but neither will ever win with fans who have their own priorities on which sport to follow. Hence, if you want golf news most people would go to specific golf websites.

Umm sky was mentioned by two people before I mentioned them

And surely with Sky being the “Home of Golf” when someone is being critical of what the BBC report then they are a good comparison

So compare the two reporting functions - websites - simple.
