Are you still motivated?

I’m still relatively new to Golf so maybe suffering from over enthusiasm, but damn, it’s March! The sun’s out… How can you not want to practice or play? I’m off up to the club to get in an hour putting over lunch

How many years does it take before the shine wears off the start of a new golfing year?

It never has for me, its just gets a tighter hold on me and my time!.... I LOVE IT!

Hardcore golf enthusiast as always Alex... Im with you, right now I LOVE IT!!

My brother used to play and gave it up due to not improving enough, I on the other hand came to golf late and while it can infuriate you some days, I can’t see me ever giving it up… so many challenges to go at, handicap cut’s, single figures, swing mechanics, compressing the ball, deadly putting out, playing great courses, etc, etc… And all taking place in the great outdoors with a cold pint waiting at the 19th hole!

Don’t get me wrong I did some great sports and activities in my youth which I would not change, but I do wish I found golf 10 years ago.

I take that as high praise ... I am looking to slip out of work right now to go to a Callaway evening.

Im only playing a little over a year and a half after retiring from playing football to a fairly high competitive level....
I was sceptical at first when i took up the golf and i wasnt fully sure if i would be as motivated for it as i was for the football....
Golf being a very individual sport i think it needs a certain character in people to discipline and motivate themselves...

Now im so hooked on the game that literally the minute i wake im thinking about the weekend round and how i will approach a new week...
I have certain goals set for myself which i believe help with being motivated for sport.
Im a very driven individual as regards applying myself fully in what i do so im hoping that this will help in my quest for Cat1. :D

Do you really need to ask? I got made redundant a few years back and fortunately had some money tucked away so there wasn't too much pressure early doors. I got made redundant in the Jaunary and only got a job in August once the reserves were beginning to run low. Best season of golf I had in years though and played and practiced every afternoon. Well after a busy morning on the phones and PC job hunting I needed to get the executive stress out somehow.

Now I have to make do with every night in the week in the summer and every weekend all year. At least the range keeps the itch at bay in the winter and if the course is rammed a hours solitude on the practice ground can work wonders. I love the game and will find a way to improve. Call me peverse but in the cold light of the day even the poorest round ever will give me some sense of enjoyment somewhere, somehow

If I had the time I would play every single day of the year.
Motivated enough?
I think so.

Ditto!

This is the first time ive played right through the winter and have, in a perverse way i suppose, enjoyed it. Must admit im looking forward to playing in warmer temps now though.

Over the last thirty years I've drifted in and out of golf. There have been periods when I've played every day, spending all day, every day at the club. Nowadays I only play on Sunday but I wish it was more.

I'm now back in love with golf and I've given up football and cricket. I saw the light. Golf, to me, is the greatest game - the rest are merely playing catch up.

I started when I was about 17 and played for about 10 years at various courses and finally joined one where I was given an 18 handicap but I never entered any club competitions or got that involved, more of a "car park member".

I then entered that phase where money is tight, marriage, mortgage, three kids, and unfortuantely the golf had to stop.

After about 15 years or so I tentatively joined my last club again, unsure if I would justify the year's memebrship.
Best money I ever spent! I'm now completely hooked, can't understand why I never entered club comps previously and really enjoy the social side of the club. I only play once at the weekend (I'd love to play Staurday and Sunday but can't think of a good enough bargain point to please my wife) and over the summer I try and get down there for a midweek evening knock.
