Well my home club is getting very dry and running at the moment. (see recent tweets)

Good thing is my long game is coming nicely into shape, bad thing is I am struggling to adjust to the course conditions.

A full flushed 52* pitched off the front of the green and rolled out the back. The ground is so hard it just pings off! I had to use that club to carry a ditch too.

Our place is turning into something that links golf would think is silly, landing the ball 10 yards short of the green and running on isnt enough! Sadly the course isnt designed to allow much more than that with lots of raised green fronts, bunkers, ditches etc protecting right where you HAVE to land it.

Hopefully they get some water on it, saw them setting up extra sprinklers on almost every hole last night so it looks good.

So even with a stellar long game I could only knock it round in just over my handicap due to cracked dry greens that you couldnt judge a chip on and threw soft putts off line and strong putts were sent rolling 10ft by!

Not playing it for 3 weeks now due to holiday, maybe it will be better when I get back!

I would like to remind you of my nationality... its my duty as an English (only just) Northerner! (I'm were not raised in Cambridge BTW).

Summer would be fine if the course had a proper sprinkler system and water supply...

Its a nice problem to have after last year.

after my comment that it wasn't warm in the SE I have to admit that when I finally got to play my course yesterday in a Seniors comp I was amazed how dry the surfaces had become!

despite the fairways being very grassy I managed to hit all time best drives on 15, 16, 17 and 18 - although the last did leave the fairway a couple of yards :( good solid forum distances achieved

as you remind us, it was pretty wet/soft for most of last season.

Our course is the same at the minute.

The greens are pretty green just now. They are bone hard but not cracked.

We have a 154 yard par 3 as our 4th hole. I landed a 7 iron a yard or 2 short of the green. caught a high bounce but only ran to the middle of the green.

I played a couple of holes with our handicap secretary on the same evening. He hit a high lob wedge, that must have had snow on it how high it went, that landed at the front of the green and, I'm pretty sure bounced just as high as the shot and ran to the back of the green.

I will be aiming to land the ball well short tomorrow and allow for the run.

First moan of the summer though has officially arrived before the actual summer has! But as for adjusting a bit of practice on the firmer surfaces should sort the game issues out, as for condition of cracked greens perhaps someone should hang, draw and quarter the green keeper because that shouldn't be happening at all.

Quit your moaning, at least you don't have to play in 20mph plus wind as well.;)

So you don't think links course have raised greens front bunkers and ditches (burns) short of the greens, you must come up and play Moray, Nairn and Royal Dornoch;)

Its pee-ing down here so hard that I decided to cancel my 0807 tee time. Jut lying on the sofa watching the golf now that the kids are off to school.

Our course is playing really well. The fairways are hard giving great run on the ball, had a 290 drive yesterday afternoon, and the greens are in good shape as they have left a little more grass than normal as there is some work to be done before they get cut right back.
Played like a total donkey for 8 of the nine holes but loved playing on with the course in this condition. Looking forward to the medal tomorrow.

Summer? We have snow forecast for this afternoon. I think I'll go skiing instead. :(

Yip, growth is certainly slow this year. We do need some heat to kick the greens on a bit. Strange year so far.

Watching BBC Scotland weather this morning and they had Inverness, west and up to Dornoch all white. No snow here though it has been hissing it down since yesterday afternoon.

It's certainly running out on the fairways. I hit 3w, 9iron to 3ft for a birdie on a 430yard par 4 last night, that was fun :)
Rare, sadly, but fun.

We are at least one month late with things on the farm. Growth is very slow and the spring barley is only just through the ground. Grass for hay/silage isn't showing much sign of growth either and the ground is pretty dry and dusty. Hopefully it will soon catch up.
