Acceptable pairs betterball scores

It appears to me that this system has been brought in to try and curb banditry.
To many 4 ball comps and those where there is no draw and mates can play with mates.
Cheats will be cheats.

It’s a shame that the system that they have brought in overall has helped encourage banditry

The 4BBB acceptable scores is a joke

My mate and I hit the 42 point threshold in an open last weekend (betterball pairs). He got a cut but I didn't because his score counted on ten holes and mine on eight.

In betterball, it's my habit to only write down the better of the two scores. On holes where we both score the same, I put the score against whoever holed out first. I'm wondering if I should start noting down both scores all the time (and obviously asking our marker to do likewise). We could each score higher on six holes and tie on the other six. Effectively giving each one of us 12 scores that were better than or equal to one another.

Is it possible for both players to get a cut in betterball stableford? Do the common competition software packages allow/expect one score or two for each hole in betterball? And is each score entered against an individual or just against the team? Wondering if anyone with knowledge of running comps has any helpful information.
Everyone should do as you currently do - only record the first to score the better score - so no, you shouldn't change.

Yes, it is possible for both players to have a score differential calculated for the round (NB doesn't necessarily mean they get a reduction in handicap).
Yes, competition software does allow both players scores to be entered for each hole.
For handicapping, scores are assigned to the pair and marked to indicate which player recorded that score.

That’s exactly why it was introduced but it isn’t harsh enough. The 1.5 points if your partner gets 2 points really limits the stableford score and the cut you receive, especially if your partner is throwing in 3 pointers to win the comp.

We’ve started holing out everything in 4bbb as it’s a right pain in the behind entering the scores when the system wants both scores and you have to keep pressing 0 then “played but did not score” for 18 holes. Much easier just to enter both scores and let the computer deal with it.

There was significant demand by players and clubs to ensure good performances in 4BBB events were reflected in the player's handicaps automatically, without needing excessive manual intervention by handicap committees and relying on players to report scores back.

The only alternative was the hugely unpalatable (for now) MLS.

Must be good for pace of play to hole out every hole

What system do you use ?

These sort of statements get thrown around when looking to justify ridiculous decisions they make

wonder where these players and clubs are

HowDidiDo. Last few 4bbb comps have asked for both players scores, maybe just the way the club has set them up. If you have to put both scores in then it’s just easier to hole out rather than the “played but did not score” message 18 times.

My best score of the season is from a 4BBB, I played well, I am quite happy to take a cut,

Today we had a mixed 4BBB, there were some very high scores 49 won, a couple of 46s, 45s, 44s it is only right the people get cut, here is a funny thing though, we had 43 points, I was on the card 10 times, so will get a score on my handicap however I was the anchor and was getting the steady 2 points, whereas when my partner was on the card it was mainly 3 points, so I will had a score on my record but it probably wont be one of my top 8, whereas if we applied the same formula to my partner her would have probably got a cut, but wont because he was only on 8 times.

So it is not perfect but at least it tries.

Doesn’t seem great if the system doesn’t just allow you to put an X or 0 in

Making everyone putt out on all holes will just slow everyone up

Ready golf mantra - if you can’t score then pick up

Can't you just skip to the holes you scored on? That's what we do when entering scores for a 4bbb. We don't have to enter 0 or played but did not score.

It's not unusual for people to ridicule things they don't understand or know much about.

The authorities get feedback from a variety of sources, including the countless WHS workshops that were held with club representatives, at which this was a persistent recurring topic.
