Acceptable pairs betterball scores

My mate and I scored 49 points in a better ball in our golf week. We recorded both of our scores as well as our playing partners.
We ask for our scores to be assessed for a cut and a couple of weeks later we were both reduced by one shot .
Ooooooooo. No pre registration. Criminal :)

I know what it is but at the same time they are taking players score for handicapping purposes and adding fictitious shots to it rather than the score the player produced. It’s stupid, it’s not fair or appropriate. There is no need to make up a score when the player can simply complete the hole.

Either have it for handicap and take into account scores that were tied on the hole or don’t take handicap adjustments into consideration. What they have now is a half thought out idea that isn’t accomplishing what they want.
Many would say treating 4BBB the same as individual stroke play (what you are advocating), when they are not, is stupid, not fair, and not appropriate.

It's accomplishing precisely what they want - producing a reasonably fair score differential for players who have performed particularly well in 4BBB competitions.

Of course treating it as individual stroke play is stupid, it’s almost as stupid as making up fictitious scores and giving players handicap cuts that don’t really match how they just played.

That’s a bit confusing

If it’s a 4bbb comp then the club set it up as a qualifying comp

If it’s just a social trip then you pre register via EG app and put individual scores in for HC

Don’t need to ask for anything to be assessed

That isn't what they said.
"My mate and I scored 49 points in a better ball in our golf week."
And they said they had preregistered 3 month ago which would imply it was an official competition so they shouldn’t have needed to ask for a review.

“Of course we pre registered - only about 3 months prior”

Obviously a tongue in cheek remark.

Plus, pre-registration can only be done on the day.

You shouldn’t have needed to request a review then since you scored over 42 points. The system should have done it automatically for you.

Unless of course the system sucks.
I don't know whether they were going to be reviewed or not, and so we asked when handing the card in for it to be used for handicapping

So they played a general play round that they pre-registered on the day as 4 individuals? As far as I’m aware you can’t pre-register a 4bbb round in the app.

Or did they play a friendly game of 4bbb with no registration and then request a review afterwards? And if they did did they only mark the best score and someone at the club manually figured out what the scores should have been using the 1.5 and 1 point system or did they look at the 49 points and say “1 shot cut for you both”?

It was golf week, we entered several competitions some 3 months before. I'm assuming the comps that handicapping was expected to be done, were done, but of course there were Texas scrambles and other fun competitions that weren't going to result in handicap adjustments. Current handicaps were checked on the day and I'm sure the scores were entered where necessary including for the many visitors

Was it club organised comp ?

If it’s not gone on your HC either it’s not reached the required level of points or they didn’t set it up as qualifying

He said they had 49 points, so we know there is a tick for that condition.

It seems it wasn't a "qualifying" competition (not pre-registered), and thus shouldn't have been used in the handicap record.

Though I've no idea if the score was added to his record, or a -1 adjustment was made using a Review

It’s the ten scores on one person must count as well so they both shouldn’t get HC adjusted

If it’s a symmetrical 9 and 9

Yes, for our golf week

I don't know what they did or didn't do. I had been playing crap golf for some time so was extremely happy to play as well as I did on the day. A handicap cut was well earned and, as above, I don't give a toss how it came about but I got a confirmation of my cut from How Did I do

In which case, unless there is a valid reason for not setting the comp as acceptable for handicapping, your club must remediate and submit all qualifying scores.

Sounds like they should contact the county for assistance in understanding what they should be doing.
