so, as most know I am off 28 h.c, have been for a year. best round an 85, worst a cricket score. I have birdied a few, missed eagle putts and had a 12 as recently as last week sooooo

I know I can do it, won nearest pin, won the 2's in comps, played the front 9 at woburn great, won my singles at Woodhall but for the life of me I can not get off 28 :(

It's like a great big gorilla on my back, not a mere monkey.

Am I just destined to have a good hole here and there and no more or is it purely mental, more practice and it will come cos right now I am shamed to admit I am proper f'd off

Until the morning of course :D

I understand with the new sex equality laws the maximum mens handicap is going up to 36. Should help you get off 28 mate.

I wouldnt worry about it. Just play and have fun, when you you're enjoying your golf you'll probably find the handicap comes down. Consistency will come with time. Ive only been playing 20 odd months myself but finding the more I play, the more consistent I become. I'd not been playing well the last couple of weeks, but had a good round today, possibly because I didnt think about it, I just played. Shot 4 over gross on the back 9 with 2 double bogeys so I know it will come on again so I'll just try not to worry about it or get too caught up with the handicap.

Soon as you get your first cut, more will follow. But dont think, just play :-)

Sounds frustrating Gibbo but we all go through it. A good option is to focus on where you are losing shots and working on those issues. It is nice to have a couple of 2s in your round but if they are offset by a handful of triples caused for some particular reason then it can feel like it's all for nothing. See if you can identify one or 2 particular areas in your game which are most responsible for your overall score then work on those/get specific lessons etc. Also think about what was going on in your mind when you hit good shots/have good holes and try to work on staying in that mindset for longer - easier said than done of course, but at minimum it can help you get less affected when adversity comes along in your round.

Stick with it mate and keep the lessons going. You've said it yourself there are signs of improvement. The lessosn will lead to a more consistent swign which will lead to better scores. This leads to more confidence and you'll play better again. Once you get that 28 handicap off your back I think it'll come very quickly and you'll drop two or three more. It sounds like the old story of trying too hard and chasing a score when you have a bad hole. Chin up and keep going.

Oldmate, the good shots are when I seem to just not focus too much, relax and hit it. Usually after a crap shot where I think sod it and just hit the bloody thing :)

Homer, yeah, as soon as a comp comes along its usually after a spell of positive play when I think 'right, here we go, win the comp, massive h/c cut' then play like Andre the giant with a set of kids clubs :D

I'm in the same boat, 26 as first hcp just over a year ago and still stuck on it. Just read rotellas golf is not a game of perfect and one of his main points is not to think mechanically in the swing just do it, or that effect! Stick with Tw lessons but maybe keep some stats as my pro has just asked me to do and see where you are losing the most shots, then you can target that area. Chin up we'll get there!

DON'T PANIC...

it'll come, just keep on with whatever you pro has told you and that cut will happen-.

Just a thought.. Do you play competitions with the same golfers each time, and if so try changing. Play at a different time, play a different ball, change the colour of the tee peg,

If you can get it on the green every time close enough to 2 putt, you will knock shots off your h/cap.

Always consider the % chance of pulling off the shot, if its 50/50 or less play an easier shot.

Dont try to hit any shot at more than 75% power - you will probably be more accurate

Dont try and par/birdie the holes that are most difficult, you can get to a green with three 7 iron shots 420 yards away that will still take two shots any other way and you are more likely to get three consecutive 7 irons near than a driver and 5 iron.

Work on lagging long putts rather than race them past, trying to hole it, and miss the one back each time

At the range, check your stance, alingment and grip continuously

You have 28 free shots - use as many as you need wisely

Good luck mate it will all click in eventually

once she is within 60 yards, she's deadly.
