We have one of these tomorrow and just wondering what your choices might be.

I'm currently thinking Driver, 6-iron, 9-iron and putter but I have changed my mind loads of times already. I'd maybe swap my driver for 3-wood but I don't carry a modern one regularly so would have to bring out my TM Bubble Burner if I went down that road ;)

I haven't played in this style of comp in years, obviously its course dependent, but I don't ever remember taking driver, 3 or 5 wood would be my preference of wood, maybe a 4 iron instead ?

Depends on the course. If it has a lot of longish carries I'd take drive/3w but if its shorter and favours positional shots I'd go 3H, 6I PW (can use the hybrid around the greens off muddy lies too)

Very course dependent, however when I played one recently I went with the below.

2 Iron
6 Iron
52

The 2 iron gets me out there on par 4's, par 5's as well as secondary shots on par 5's. Short par 4's where typically a full wedge or less in as a result, longer par 4's could be reached with the 6 full blooded or knocked down.

The 6 iron covered 3 of the longer par 3's and the 52 got me to the other 2 par 3's. Wind was favourable though when you have a 1 or 2 club wind you can get a bit stuck and knocking down a 2 iron in such cases is always good fun but at least it will stop considering current conditions.

Never done one, but on our course I would go driver, 7 iron, gap wedge(50°) I think. Or maybe driver, 7, PW as the PW covers all the par 3s better. I can see why others are taking a wood or hybrid rather than driver, but at my place I tend to tee off with the driver on at least 11 holes so might as well bring it or I'll just be short off the tee more than half the time.

X 6 9 where X is your minimum tee club to get you within range of itself, the 6 or 9 on your par 4s ie it's capable of tee and fairway use, and also covers off any longer pat 3s.
For a shorter course you might go to X 7 PW

I did one recently. Obviously course layout makes a big difference, but taking driver was a huge plus over a fairway wood as the longest club. Getting a long way down holes really helped given limited options for subsequent shots. And you'd be surprised how easy it is to 'bunt' it on shorter tee shots - I hit decent efforts into two of our par 3s playing between 170 and 190.
Also, fairway woods are no gimme off the tee and hard for most handicap golfers to use off the fairway (whatever they think!), so no great advantage there.
I went driver/8i/50deg and would definitely use the same again.

The other thing to think about, is what are your 'favourite' clubs. If you only have 3, you need to love them! My two iron choices were based on which one I hit best off the fairway and which one I'm happier with around the greens.
You'll play lots of odd shots, and a good shot just short is much better than a duff or a smear, so go with what you can look down on and be happy.

Could you not just hit a 3W off the tee? Wouldn't be an issue unless you've got a 250 yard carry over water

Illogical to take a driver, you will only use it 12/14 times.
In the days when skill was king I would have gone with 2 iron, 6 iron and wedge.
Not many folk can use or adapt a two iron nowadays.
