Depends how I feel and what we’re doing - if we’re just out for 9 I’ll carry the full set. Otherwise, I’ve got a Sunday/pencil bag and it’ll be Driver, 4, 6, 8, pw & 58 degree wedge. The vastly annoying thing is I really don’t find a score much differently!

Same here. Scores not radically different.
A few years back my best round of the season was in the 3 clubs + putter comp.
Bit still always take a full set when using wheels.

I do have a super light bag, so I was okay. However a full set of steel shaft irons affected me.
So now graphite shafts all round.. just thinking more about the 7 wood and 6iron .. realistically I would not need them because even where I would use a 3 wood I could reduce my driver or accept a longer 2nd shot.
If I pop in my hybrid instead and set it to 200-210 yards that should be okay .. so that’s got everything covered I think.

I try to only take what clubs I’ll get decent amount of use from for any round at any time of the year, whether carrying or not. That usually means taking a dozen as a maximum even with a buggy (can’t abide taking clubs to not use or use only once)

That’s my intention as well, and I think if you know your yardages and where you get to on the course you can set the bag up.
I also have taken the view that if I don’t have that distance in my bag I play up to my favourite short range or I accept that I may be slightly short and if the hole/bunker layout allows I do that.

Yeah its not going down to half set its something in-between

My 3w and 4iron often give pretty similar distance (especially into the wind) so I'll choose which one to take even though I have club capacity to take both.
The course, weather, tees, comp/GP all make that choice for me

I hate that I need to carry a rock club (course has a lot of subsurface volcanic rock off the fairways) otherwise that would be another I could drop (currently a beat up 9iron & my ocd wont let me drop the shiny 9iron that I use off fairway, so I kinda have a 'double' in there)

When I play our 9 hole course I slim the bag down (even though I use a buggy)
There is only one hole that I can use a driver on and it is a par 5 on so that is.
One or two of the wedges go
Sometimes the putter goes because the greens are so different to the 18 hole course (I just putt with a wedge)
I may just go to every other iron.

When I play down there for practice I often just take a 5 or 6 iron and one wedge.

Never play more than 8 clubs anyway, sometimes drop to 7:
Driver, 5w, 7w, 6i, 8i, C wedge (42 degree), 56, putter
Playing short courses I drop the driver.

Home course I carry in the winter to keep the powakaddy clean!

I'll take out a rescue, odd number irons and two wedges to keep it light enough to carry.

Sometimes I change even number irons to odd, just for practice 😉😉

Will be spending more time at the seaside playing proper golf this winter! Full bag etc!🫡

Only in the most extreme weather will we have a ban on trolleys....and to be honest, when that happens the course isnt the most playable and I generally don't bother. So no need for a winter setup for me....if I do anything though it is to leave the lob wedge out of the bag....no fun getting a face full of muddy slop when it digs in to soft wet Earth.

I only use a trolley for competitions in the summer to be honest.
Most the time I carry but winter kind of makes some clubs pointless..
Hopefully today I will get time to hit some balls with R10 at work out the distance gaps and fudge the hybrid or 7 wood ( 7 wood is a bit long and I don’t have the ability to control 3/4 shots)

When Carrying At Nairn over winter i would either just take a half set or use Hickorys. No comps and short course. At Tain last year they played counting comps every week so i just used the full set (13 clubs)
