3 clubs and a putter comp

I enjoy the 4+putter format but 3 inc putter I never enter.
I think it very much depends on the length and style of your course. My original club was a short links course. 3 clubs only was fine. My current course, long parkland, 3 clubs only would be a nonsense, it would have to be 4. The course is the key to this.

Pretty much this. My old club a 3h, 9i and putter was ok but the big hitters could take 6i, 52* and putter and it was often cat1’s who won it. 5 clubs definitely made it a tighter comp.

At the new club I wouldn’t bother with 3 clubs due to length,

Nairn has a 3 club one has to be a putter and its always amazing how well people score at times. i managed to shoot 72 gross last time i played it but got well beaten

My club did one of these this week but it was on a Thursday morning so I couldn't play in it, which was a shame as I've never done it.

Yes, I'd maybe take 3 wood as my course isn't the longest and it means I can hit it for second shots as well. Then it's a mid-iron and a wedge really. 7 iron most likely, and as for the wedge you'd maybe go 50°? I would say PW or AW but I'd definitely have to avoid bunkers in that case. Even 50 is probably pushing it. 😂
I've seen the results come through for this on the app - only two people entered. Guess they won't bother with it next year. Winner still got 35 points though!
