2016 Goals

Make the last 16 of the county championships.

Play more golf with my old fellah. Unfortunately he lives 300 miles away so not as easy as it sounds.

Make it to 2017:p

1) Go "cold turkey" on new clubs and end the year with the same 14 clubs i start it with
2) Finallyl take Lincoln Quaker up on his offer of a round at his place, somewhere i'm very keen to experience
3) Get my handicap below my all time low of 11.8
4) Break 80 in competition play at my home club (80 and 81 on a few occasions but nothing beginning with 7 as yet)
5) Meet some more of you guys if i can !!!

To relax and enjoy myself more on the course.

Would like to maybe get back down to 12 but if I'm stuck on 19 this time next year, so be it.

It's only a game after all !!

Basically I need to stop the rot, ditch the endless pointless driving range sessions hitting ball after ball off rubber mats and actually get some course time. On the course +1 on every hole as my target, stop trying to hit my 7 iron 160 and be realistic, calm and methodical.

A complete contrast to my current approach.

I have a goal of being able to hit a driver as well as I hit my other clubs as it destroys my game and enjoyment.
I have purchased one and have been to the range twice with it now and when it goes it goes however at the moment the bad out ways the good so a lot of work to do.

I want to go around Ilfracombe GC in level par with my best being 3 over.

Retain my club champion trophy.

Get to Cat 1 playing at Ilfracombe.

Play less at Vivary Park as it depresses me.

Enjoy my away days with the Forum not really a goal as I usually do anyhow so maybe meet a few more of you.

Play a few different courses maybe more up North.

Will be hard going topping this season... so aims for 2016 are:

1) To get down to single figures from current 11.6;
2) Hit a consistent fairway wood and not feel like I'm throwing away a shot whenever I try to hit one;
3) Play a greater number of courses away from my home course.

Anything else - club competiton win, GM opportunity, Forum meet (see 3) etc - will be a welcome bonus.

Since I didn't set any last year I'm going all out next year and make some statements rather than targets. So, in 2016 I will...

  • Finish the year with a handicap of 8 or less
  • Shoot a PB (currently +4)

I thought that this was another football thread so have only just looked at it!

For me it's to try and find some confidence again.

2015 has been a disaster, starting the year as a bit of a shanker didn't help and a lack of confidence slowly crept into all departments of my game, from driving to chipping.
For most of the year I'd be stood over the ball and the only thing in my mind was the shot I didn't want to hit.
This resulted in a depressing year, particularly in competitions.

For 2016 I'm going to take one or two lessons and then just play each shot as it comes, a huge cliche I know but it's got to be simple.

I'm already seeing a bit of an improvement and am actually hitting some shots with positive thoughts!

Qualify for Captain's Weekend.

Play at least 5 links courses that I've not played before (and plenty I have).

Keep the same 13 clubs, i have in my bag now, until this time next year (room for 1 more though!).

Firstly, great news to hear DCB is on the way back, stick in.

My own goals for 2016 is to continue with monthly lessons through the winter.
Work more on short game.
Work at practicing golf properly and have more focus doing it. Trying to get away from the scrape and hit mentality.
Numbers wise I am aiming for a handicap of less than 14 currently at 16.0.
Pro is confident it is achievable. Fairways at more than 7 out of 16.
GIR up to more than 5, has been around 4 for a couple of years :(
Putts less than 32 has been that for a couple of years now.
Play as much as I can and enjoy it.

LOL.

You've just nailed pretty much everything I'm trying not to think about too much!
