The club’s is starting a winter league tomorrow (a new event). Our roll up also has an unofficial winter league which has been running for years.

Some of our group are intending on playing in both comps. It’s inevitable that at some point they will having differing handicaps for each comp.

This being the case, is it acceptable to record both comps on the same card, or will the marker have to update 2 separate cards?

Presumably the hole by hole gross scores will be the same. If so there shouldn't be a need for two cards unless the competition organisers wish to keep the cards.
I guess the roll up uses non WHS handicap.
Will the club winter league be a h'cap qualifier? If so only one set of scores should be recorded for WHS.

The scores for the club comp will count for WHS purposes.
If scores are acceptable for handicapping, then all rounds played in organised competitions should be submitted for handicapping - this includes 'unofficial' ones organised by rollups.

This being the case, everyone's handicap will be maintained over the winter, so why would the rollup want to operate a secondary handicap system?

As to your original question... the club comp will (presumably) require properly completed scorecards; and whoever is organising the rollup decides what their requirements are.

I may have misunderstood the situation. Are those players proposing to play in both comps at the same time or two different rounds?

Not in our winter society. We have gimmees, and the oob drop so not official. Also have cuts to spread the prizes

I assume everyone in the OPs case is playing by the same rules, which would make their scores acceptable for handicapping.

Also, if you want to spread the prizes, just have equal prizes for every finishing position - i.e. give everyone their money back.

Guess depends on the format

Our winter league is 4bbb matchplay and swindle is stableford so we don’t allow those playing in WL to also enter the swindle that week

Just state your roll up is a fifteen club competition making it inelligible for handicap and if people want to use 14 clubs for their winter league matches its fine

Both stableford.

Can’t see why both scores couldn’t count for a WL comp and any roll up

It’s what we do through the year when playing any comp - the score is also used in any roll up comp for that day or OOM and adjusted using the Roll up HC is different

Just fill out two cards

One for the WL and one for the roll up comp using the same gross score

Our roll up is every Sunday, we have a chap who collates the scores and updates the handicaps. This has been over the years and so our roll up handicaps aren’t really related to our whs handicaps. Reason being, if you win the roll up you get deducted 3 shots, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd. We have nearest the pin on certain holes, if you win 2 in the same round you get deducted a shot from your roll up handicap. We also have an average stableford score each week and if you’re below that you get a shot back. Roll up scores are recorded on a separate card.

We also play in the club comps at the same time, as per normal rules and handicap and therefore have a separate card for that.

Assume every roll up at every other club around the country does something similar.

Wasn't there a thing at the beginning of the year where the authorities had told clubs to stamp out separate handicaps from roll ups and similar?

Has that just been ignored or have regional bodies / clubs been active about it?

Don’t see the issue with it as long as all holes are completed (holes/picked up).

I used to put in GP cards while playing in a roll up sweep as well, don’t see it being any different.
