Monty:thup:
Langer:thup:

..and definitley NOT poulter or you might as well just give the USA a point on the first tee:eek:

9th/10th McDowell

Wildcards

9th/10th Gallacher
11th Luiten
12th Jimenez

With McDowell holding the current auto 9th spot, my wildcard pick would be as above, however if Gallacher makes the auto 9th spot, then I'd put McDowell in the 10th spot.

Poulter and Westwood are no-brainers for me. Then I would have Gallacher given the Scottish connection as may whip the "home" fans into a frenzy and scare the Americans. Here's hoping anyway.

Poulter is a guaranteed pick IMO, I'd have Donald and Westwood.

Over the last couple weeks though there have been events where points have counted and some of those players could have played and gained automatic qualification??? No?? Like McDowell, he can be bumped out this weekend by Gallagher from automatic spots. Surely if these guys really wanted to play in the ryder cup they would be making every effort to try and score points to get in.
If they can't be bothered their backside to try and earn points then they don't deserve to be in.

thats a pretty poor attempt at trolling even for you lol

I'd agree if it was, but it's not:whistle:

I would even buy more tickets if the old guard took on the mighty USA on home soil- paired together they would be a very hard pair to beat.

Why pick Poulter or Westwood for that matter, neither have played very well this season. pickoing Poulter just because he's played in the last few shouldn't get him a wildcard, it should be based on his performances.

There are others on the circuit who are playing better, the Molinari's, Luiten, Jimenez, even relatively unknowns like Dredge and Rock have done better than Poulter, Westwood, Donald.

Just because they have been in every RC team since pussy was a kitten, shouldn't mean they are shoe ins

Poulter is the problem for me. The captain is on a hiding to nothing with this decision. He has shown no real form to warrant a captain's pick and so it will only ever be a decision made on past glories. If you pick him and we win then it is expected, pick him and we lose and the mistake was picking on past reputation and not form, don't pick him and we lose then it was all because Poulter was not picked.

In all honesty, I would not pick him as he really has done nothing this season (and I am a Poulter fan) but I expect that he will be picked irrespective.

I agree - BUT - I would counter with the argument he is an awesome "Match Play player" which is a different game to stroke play.

He just rises to the occasion, raises his game and has the ability to "lift" everyone around him in Ryder Cups.

For me he is a must pick, for his reputation as a Ryder Cup legend alone.

Exactly, Id be picking him not because he played in prev RCs but because he has a 12-3 record (80%) and pretty much single handedly was the catalyst in turning round the last Ryder Cup in Europes favour (he went into that with little form either).

Am not a fan but really struggle to understand how people rate him below such luminaries as Bradley Dredge, Eduardo Molinari and Robert Rock when picking for RC

Spot on!

Given that our automatics have the beating of the US team and that all our players aren't going to play in all the rounds anyway, then it would be really cool to add in Langer & Monty

Just imagine what kind of message that would send across the pond :D

And imagine the atmosphere when either of these two step onto the 1st
(I hear they can both still play a bit too so no harm done there)

Should Poulter get picked, which he probably will, then what kind of message is McGinley sending out to the players who have played better consistently throughout the season but get overlooked.

McGinley is in a no win situation, as there will be those like myself who do not want to see Poulter picked and those in the other camp who do.

Hell, Poulter is only 48th in the European Tour Race to Dubai and while I suggested Dredge as an option (he was only person that sprung to mind earlier), Mikko Illonen, Shane Lowry and Jonas Blixt are all further up the order and have been playing better.

I've seen this "whip the home fans into a frenzy" thing a couple of times recently...

Why the assumption that the majority of the European fans will be Scottish?
OK the event is in Scotland but the last one was in Wales and most of the fans were not Welsh.........

Not a promising start for Gallacher today. Started well, but 3 bogeys in 4 got him in trouble. Some of his competitors have started well though, Luiten finished -3, Warren is -2 after 9 (and playing with McGinley), the younger of the Molinari's is -2 after 8 and Alexander Levy continues to show promise, and is -3 after 10. Amazed McDowell isn't playing in this tournament, seems silly to leave it up to Gallacher to fail to win to guarantee his place. He should be there fighting.

McDowell has just had his first child ( well his wife has ) and was never going to make this event

He was always guaranteed a spot and deservedly so this year.
