Is someone at your club the guardian of the details regarding your clubs trophies or have their reasons for playing for been lost in the midst of time? My reason for asking is that I am going to our club this afternoon to meet up with our next years President to take pictures of our trophies and to get as much information about each one as he can remember. I am then going to document each one and produce a file that will then hold the information on each one.

Not so much details of the actual trophies themselves, but when on the handicap committee the other year I compiled a list of the competitions.

Alongside that, I also put details of the comp, entry criteria, if a major, and if known a little bit of history behind it. If I can fish it out, I may be able to put a copy on here, or send me your e-mail address.

I did it so that new (and existing members) knew more about the comps. We had a founders trophy and I originally thought only original members could go in it.........(we were only formed in 1954), but I was wrong.

We have a club Museum and 2 archivists plus a couple of books about the club with a page on pretty much every trophy and its winners listed.

Don't know if we have a book or similar, but I think the history of each trophy is known. Might be a good idea to get it written down if it is not done yet. Memories only last so long.

The only trophy I've ever won - the Naval Cup (and the nicest trophy in the cabinet) - was donated by officers of the local naval training station as they used the course when they were on station. Now, my geography ain't all that, but last time I looked, Crystal Palace wasn't all that close to the sea...

I spent yesterday afternoon with our President, a very nice man, photoing the men's cup and trophies. What a confusing nightmare that was. It appeared that one of the trophies was missing and we now present a shield ( that had the same surname of the original named cup)for it instead. One prize used to be a plate and now was a cup. A plate was incorrectly named. What a mess. A simple task took 2 1/2 hours. Now I've got to piece things together and produce a nice folder for it all. Will I get any thanks? No I don't think so either

As some have already commented it's something everyone does from time to time - the current ones using digital images and online reference docs might actually last beyond each new comp sec!
