Your Best / Worst Shots of 2010

Finally got to play Turnberry this year, a wee treat from the missus for my 3oth birthday.

Sneaked on to the Tiger Tee at the 10th, 220 yard carry over rocks, beach and sea. Bruces Castle at my back, wind gusting straight into my face, waves crashing all around, carry looking further and further.....Unleashed the trusty G10, a low rising hook pierced the wind like an arrow and landed in the middle of the fairway. Could have died a happy man there and then.

Shanked the next straight into the hay.....bugger!

Best: Greening a drive on the par4 5th at my home club.

Worst: My repeats annoying habit of hitting my 7iron onto the 2nd fairway off the 8th tee every single time despite hitting straight everywhere else on the course!

Glad that amused you.

I've seen you rattle in 70 foots at spey vally so five foot shouldn't bother you :D

HAHAHAHA! If I rattled in a 70ft putt then that was my shot of the year!

Anyway, talking about Spey Valley, how funny was it when Clarky, I think, knifed it out of the greenside bunker, sailed the green and smacked the guy on the next tee full pelt in the chest!

Thats the nearest I've ever been to wetting myself trying to hold in a laugh! :D :D :D :D :D

Best for me was chipping in out of a bunker from about 60 yards. Not quite the same celebrating when you are playing on your own though !!

Worst - Plenty, probably missing a 3 footer for a half on the last in matchplay game.

My worst has to be when i was playing in a comp where each player had to have four drives/tee shots count each from the round. (Texas Scramble is it?). I had driven well throughout but for various reasons we used the drives of the others. Then the heavens opened and i could not hit a ball for toffee for some reason. We got to the last hole and i had to drive as i was the only one whose drive would have counted and hookked it into the bushes about 10 yards to the left of me. So it was 3 off the tee and i did it again. We finished with a double bogey and missed out on 2nd place by 1 point and finished empty handed instead of getting a dozen titleist balls each. :(

Best was my 7 iron into the hole on the 6th at my course the other week.

Worst was the air shot on day 2 of the Goswick meet except was not even and air shot, I managed to hit the club into the ground about 3 inches behind the ball.

It was the only effing shot you missed all weekend! ;)

Suprised you did not mention your shot into the par 3 on day 1, that ended up near the pin but how I do not know.

Local knowledge..... :D :D :D :D

Yes I remember that, Couldn't really laugh as it could have killed the guy. First bad shot by the bugger too. i think that was the first hole we won, wasn't it?

Best Shot - Bryn Meadows Golf Club in Maes-y-Cwmmer.

10th Hole: Drove to within 10 feet of the green in a perfect position and chipped in for an eagle 2.

Worst shot - Ross on Wye Golf Club

1st Hole: Aimed left of the fairway slightly, in order to get a better look at the pin for second shot approach. Over calculated and slammed a brach of the tree pretty hard on the left side. Ball went straight into the deck and plugged in with anchors it would seem.

Ash!!

Excluding all the shanks I suffered early, mid and late season, my worst shot was on our 8th hole. Smashed a lovely 4 wood approximately 5 yards :o (It was a very cold day too) Having not even reached anywhere near the ladies and the three ball behind witnessed my shame, I graciously curtseyed to them.

Best shot; scarily enough same hole different day. Holed my 9 iron second shot for eagle 2 :D Pitched, one bounce forward past the flag and spin back into the hole. Just like on the telly, but I rarely get that much back spin never mind the accuracy with an iron :D

FWIW best and worst on THE SAME HOLE...

Duffed (skied) a driver 150yds on the par5 6th then flushed a 3-wood recovery which scuttled onto the green from over 300yds, when I got to the hole the ball was actually hanging over the edge of the hole, tap in eagle, also the closest I've ever come to an albatross.

I tend to blot out the worst shots, too many maybe but my shank at St Andrews 18th, where I attacked the Russack's hotel, was the ONE (already recorded on this forum) but my best was just ten days ago.

We are now on the winter course, tiny greens with heavy(ish) rough right up to the edge of the green, impossible to putt onto the greens for instance.

18th hole - drive and hit my wedge just short of the green, a foot further would have been a super result BUT I am now left with a one foot tiddler out of heavy grass onto a downhill run to the flag, all of 8 feet away. Staying on the green was the aim as I stood over the ball - hit my sand iron open faced, ball comes out and lands just short of the flag and bounced into the hole!! If it had missed I don't think the ball would have stayed on the small green.

See, the big Guy up there does at times put you away from a round with a smile on your face!

best result not shot, hole in one our 155yd, 15th. reasonable strike of 5 iron straight into the wind, nice helpful bounce from back of the bunker and in. Don't talk about the rest of the round.

Worst shot, leaving a 4 foot putt short of the hole on the 13th to not to go 2up in the club knockout. :(
2nd worst leaving a 4 foot putt short on the 14th to go back to all square. :(
Don't ask about the result, at least it went to the 18th. :(

Worst- way too many! but one that sticks out was playing Rockliffe for the first time with a friend, stood on the par 5 16th, driver in hand i said to my mate " the fairway is huge! theres no way you can't hit it. Cue a massive hook! that must have went out of bounds by 200 yards! Cue lots of ribbing from my mate.

Best- Playing with my dad at our local course Stressholme on the par 4 3rd, about 6ft left of the green in 2, left with a left to right chip and run to a flag about 20ft away, watched it all the way as it died into the hole just like you see on tv for my first ever birdie :)

Shame........ but well written :D

As usual with these threads, I can't remember many shots - good or bad - but the ones that stick in my mind are on the same hole on the same day.

17th, par 5 with a stream 60 yards short of the green. I'd laid up with my second and had about 85 yards to go, perfect distance for a 3/4 open faced SW.

Thinned it through the green, through the light rough behind the green, through the heavy rough behind the green, and just onto the 9th fairway.

I had about 30 yards to the flag but there was a 15' tree in front of me. The edge of the branches were only about 5' away so I didn't think I had much chance of missing them.

I opened my 60deg as far as I dare and swung as hard as I could. The ball got up over the tree and finished about 12' from the flag, and I holed the putt for a par.

Best: 180+ yard down hill with the wind 6 iron on a par 5. It rolled up to about 4 feet, the most beautiful shot I have ever hit. It soared up into the wind, drew into the pin, bounced a few times and came to rest just past the hole. (I sank the putt for an 3 thankfully).

Worst shot: Well there is three of them actually...

Playing in a fourball betterball in the summer league. Partner out of the hole due to a bad drive, mine was found but sitting on a little ridge about knee height in my stance. First shot I fell backwards and almost fell over, second shot I caught air again then opted to chip it out to save some face and it barely moved an inch.
