• Thank you all very much for sharing your time with us in 2025. We hope you all have a safe and happy 2026!

Your 2016 end of season report.

Won medal qualifier only to lose final with worst display for a few years.Playing well after that blip and in club knockout final this Friday and handicap reduced by a shot.Fingers crossed for Friday!

Pretty good for me. Reduced my handicap by 2 shots, came 5th in the county seniors and got called up to the county team where I played 2 matches and won them both. Played 6 matches for the club scratch team with 5 wins and 1 half. Won a monthly medal, broke 70 for the first time, had some good results in mixed scratch opens (2nd at Burnham and Berrow) and most importantly some signs that my short game is starting to come back.

Fundy I am a bit backsides when it comes to playing in the comps then waiting for the scores to go online. But when analysing the scores there are some, well not very good players and players that fluctuate between the two divisions ( 2 and 3 ).
If think a lot of these players that fluctuate are more or less playing around

there hcap 18-20. A lot of the time ave won my divisions I have played to

hcap with others no where. A lot of the times I have played to hcap, stupid holes have cost me a good reduction. When I drive the ball well I score well, but course management is my major problem. Not being a big hitter is a problem when our course is long.
All that aside, it has been a good year playing with my PP, having played some gorgeous courses inc Warrington, Tyneside, Wollaton, Bamburgh, Enniscrone and Carne to name but a few.
Oh ah met some good forum members along the way who have been more than happy to listen to some of my boring stories.

Never boring Andy.
Course management could see you coming down next year I think.
Enjoy Portugal, lucky beggar.
Quite a good year for you.

Pretty happy with mine, handicap came down from -54 to -33,5. Still haven't broken 100 yet (which was on my battle board for this season), but managed to do a lot of other things for the first time, like play my first birdie, hit a 200 yard drive and some other small accomplishments. Much happier with my swing than I was at the beginning of the season as well (even though I might still completely lose it during a round, sometimes).

Afternoon Mal, hopes alls well in Warrington with you and Missis "Witch" 😁👍

Shocking, and really frustrating.

Sep 2015 - 10.2, all the way up to 10.7, one good round brought that back down to 10.2 in July, and today I'm back up to 10.8.

Gutted.

Off the Abu Dhabi for three rounds at the weekend, then once I'm back lessons start with my club pro with the aim to get down to SF in 2017.

Very mixed view, started on 20.4 and finished yesterday on 17.9, was hoping for another cut after getting down to 17.4 but 1 blowout hole per round always cost me even the smallest of cuts, so, although I'm down to a shot a hole I'm a little disappointed I didn't capitalise on some early decent form but there were plenty of positives to take from the season which hopefully will be something to build on in 2017, although I'll play in some qualifiers at other courses over the winter.

Back to where I started the year after yesterdays .2 cut. Have won 2 medals this year, and am one win away in a 4BBB national competition from a trip to Portugal next year. Playing the final at Burnham and Berrow later this month.

Can't say I quite remember what my targets for this season were, but I have certainly achieved anything I set out to do. I've played lots of golf, enjoyed it, introduced my boys to the game, and hit a sub 100 round. I'm incredibly pleased with my progress this year. Still plenty of golf to go hopefully though.

My season has been a bit of a write off if I'm honest.

Came out of the traps really well winning two of my first three comps and getting cut to my lowest handicap ever..... Then I got injured.

Since June, I've played 18 holes once with several 9 hole rounds thrown in. Zero qualifiers :(

I'm still, despite my pestering, waiting for results from an Ultrasound scan and a NCS that we done a month ago!

Played 11 holes Saturday and have had less discomfort yesterday and today than usual so things may be looking up. I have a lesson Wednesday so hopefully kick on now and get sharp for next season.

Probably a B- for me.

I've played 23 Qs, have been cut 4x, Buffered 9x and gone up 10x. Started at 3.2 and am currently at 3.4. However, my season wont really end this year as Burnham has Qs every single week.

Shot my lowest ever round (-4 at Worplesdon despite finishing bogey bogey). so not too bad a year

Bit of a mixed bag really so probably a C.

My game has been getting slowly worse as the years gone on but my handicap has come down a little

Have literally put in zero practice though so not a big surprise, if my short game didn't bail me out I'd have ended up off about 7/8. My irons have been very poor in comparison to how I used to hit them, seem to be able to hit a 2 iron well but not an 8 iron just now. If I can be bothered I might go to the range a few times over winter, plus buy a new set which will obviously make all the difference..... ;)

In amongst the general mediocrity put in some really good rounds and got down to 4 for a couple of weeks, may be some more qualifiers but wouldn't be too hopeful of a cut.

Won a couple of trophies with the team and OK finishes in both the 2 day comps at the club

This was my first season as I only started playing last August. Pretty happy overall. My highlights:-

Came down from 23 to 19.8.
Highest placed finishes were 2nd, 4th and 16th.
Lowest round was gross 88.

My overall game has come on a lot which I'm really happy with. I just need to work on ironing out the silly mistakes.

Early promise not sustained sums it up for me. A medal win and a second place saw me cut from 12.6 to 10.5 by the end of April which was very encouraging. Since then five buffers and four .1's have seen me back to 10.9. Several frustrating medal rounds where I played very well and blew it in the last few holes show I still have much to learn. Overall the hours on the practice ground are paying off in terms of chipping/pitching and a quick tip from the pro about my putting posture has led to a much more repeatable stroke and better putting of late. So I remind optimistic that better scores are achievable in the near future.

I've played a lot of new courses this year with some real belters:

Cruden Bay
Murcar
Trump Aberdeen
Carnoustie
Carnoustie Burnside
Fairmont Kittocks
Crieff
Kilspindie
Machrahanish
Machrahanish Dunes
Dunaverty
Monifieth
Harburn
Auchterarder
Musselburgh Old

Hard to pick a favourite from that lot, but probably Carnoustie and Machrahanish are the two tugging me back the most.

Match play was a washout for me this year getting booted out early doors in all my singles and foursomes comps. Must do better.

Really looking forward the start of our winter season competition in a few weeks time - some of the most fun golf of the year, just the right mix of competitive edge and camaraderie among the 60 or so who join in.

I'd say a B for me, with a young child now on the scene I gave up my membership due to a lack of time, and joined the muni 30 seconds from my house - my 2 goals were to keep my handicap active, and if possible at 10.

I kept it active ok, but crept up to 11.

ive came down 3.5 actual, 3 shots playing to 18. Which at the beginning of the season id if chopped your hand off for. If I can manage any kind of cut ill be off 17, which would be a fantastic result.

However, Im currently playing like a donkey, got no confidence and almost forgot how to swing a club. High handicapper issues as theyre known in the trade.

Off out later, fingers crossed I find a game for sunday
