who plays off 6. Never plays in qualifiers.
Whenever he goes out to play in a friendly Stableford, he very rarely scores 30 points. In fact, he usually scores mid 20's.
Is he truly a 6 handicapped golfer, or just a 14 handicapper in disguise who is having a particularly good day (for a 14 handicapper).
Just a theoretical question like.......

Interesting question and there was one similar a few months ago I believe.

I played regularly with a 1 handicapper last year and I didn't see him beat 81! Of course these people must have played better than that to reach these handicaps and as we all know the golf swing is only borrowed

I think these golfers exist at every club. People with "vanity" handicaps. They try to keep their handicaps artificially low. They got low once but have "lost it" or don't practice any more, but don't want to face up to the inevitable. They aren't interested in winning anything, they just like the kudos of having a particular handicap. The opposite bandits, but I don't think there is a term for them. Pretty harmless deluded souls in the main.

Interesting smiffy, I would say it depends on whether the guy is actually into posting a good score or is he just there for the banter, it's sounds the later.

Wee can hear you.............I play off 6 at the moment and I would give up if I was scoring only 20 odd. Felt like givng up after last weekends round of 33 points.

The guy is doing no harm, but you earn a handicap, and then earn the right to keep it. If he's a regular and has not played in any qualifiers for 12 months, then imo should submit 3 cards for handicap. If he's made the buffer this past yr, then let him have 6.

Sounds like a GREAT guy, good company and can clearly bomb the occassional drive Definitely not a bandit (which are the worst scum)... perhaps he's been injured on and off for a while with REAL injuries that HURT

I played round a 'forest type' course with a guy (nice guy but walks like a poof) playing off 13... he only got 25pts... is he really a 24 h/capper? :ears:

If he never plays in qualifiers, he doesn't play off 6. He has an inactive handicap and needs 3 new cards to get his handicap back.
