You have a mate right.........

Err didn't know, Smiffy knew me! Sounds a bit like the situation I found myself in before I had to give up. This wonderful game. That thankfully I'm know playing again. I got down to 9, then due to neck and shoulder injuries wound up Lucky to hack around to 20. Just could not swing a club for love nor money. All in the course of 12 months. Slowly getting back into it now after a 4/5 yr lay off. But if I will ever get back down to single figures. I just don't know and I don't really care. It would be nice to, but just happy to be back playing to be honest.

Sounds like a GREAT guy, good company and can clearly bomb the occassional drive  Definitely not a bandit (which are the worst scum)... perhaps he's been injured on and off for a while with REAL injuries that HURT

I played round a 'forest type' course with a guy (nice guy but walks like a poof) playing off 13... he only got 25pts... is he really a 24 h/capper? :ears:

Fair play lol

Everyone can have their day so handicaps will generally be lower than every day ability, I once read a handicap is something to aspire to and generally only played to every 5 or so rounds.

Fair point I reckon, however there are many out their who protect their low and high status for completely opposite reasons, low for the ego and high to be a bandit and win things.

A few years back I used to play with a guy who played off 4 and at the time I was playing off 16,he beat me most of the time but I actually managed to beat him 3 times just using net scores. The guy got he`s handicap from a 9 hole course but he was proberly more like a 10 handicapper,he`s game never improved but incredibly he became a club pro  believe it or not.He took the exams and basically blagged it and now says he`s got no time to play which covers up he`s ability nicely ;) ,the few times he has played the bad scores are just put down to a "bad day".I`m not going to mention where this guy pro`s but this just goes to show what a bit of BS can do for you..............

At least give us a clue - is he based in Lincoln?

If he never plays in qualifiers, he doesn't play off 6. He has an inactive handicap and needs 3 new cards to get his handicap back.

whilst I agree the last part I would suggest that even with an 'i' after his handicap he has to play off 6. His handicap doesn't lapse, and when he puts in his 3 cards his history will be taken into account when his handicap is 'activated'.

Cripes, this is me! Couldn't look near a 4 handicap presently but still have one! Returned only 2 abysmal cards last year and have since played the 'injured' card to M+H Sec so have got away with not having to return 3 cards this year!
If I could play to 15 I'd be doiing well.
Age and injuries have caught up with me which I'm struggling to accept.:(

the last thing you want to do to someone who played off 5 if make them put cards in then give them 15. if they even got a bit of their game going again, they would win competitions with their eyes closed.

I think I know the guy that you mean James. Wasn't he off 12 at the time though? And let's be honest....in his defence. A 12 handicapper is going to be a little more wayward around a tight course than a supposed 6 handicapper isn't he???
This guy I am talking about (theoretically of course) would only score mid twenties around a wide open course. He's that bad.

Next time you play your imaginary friend for money I reckon he'd play off 14 if you wanted him to.... especially as in his imagination he shot 5 over par today... with an imaginary bad back

His handicap becomes active at the same handicap when he has submitted 3 cards in qualifiers (or Supplementary Scores) in the calendar year. He is, however, subject to any reduction or increase that the 3 cards merit against CSS/SSS.

This was similar to me a few years ago. I didn't have an official handicap as I wasn't a member of a club. My last official handicap had been 11.

I played maybe twice a year.

When I did play I'd say that my handicap was 11. On a good day I'd play to it. There were never any good days.

I guess the problem with your 'mate' is that he's playing regularly. My question is 'why doesn't he play in qualifiers?'
