Played today with Marc (Kellfire) from here at a local course in a open comp, it was stableford, full allowance and quite a realxed one as you picked a free tee time and went out in your own group of friends as it wasn't drawn, so a fairly laid back comp.

There was a 4 ball infront of us with 2 men a woman and a young girl of about 14ish.

Me and Marc both noticed on more than one occassion the men were giving her advice and practiclly giving her a lesson on the course. Which i'm sure you are not allowed to do during a comp.

Just had the results emailed and it turns out a junior won the females section and £15, there was only 4 females in the comp and i saw 3 while i was playing and she was the only juniour so it's a good chance it was her that won.

If it was my home course i'd have been tempted to have a word with the competion sec as they broken rules and one if them if i'm not mistaken is the captain of the club so he should know better! and it's teaching her bad habits as she may not know they are breaking the rules.

So would you say something or just forget about it and maybe think twice about entering a open comp at the same course?

Its only £15, and its a junior. I'd let them have their glory and hope that it will mean they stick with the game for life.

You can't be 100% certain what was being said. It might have looked like advice and probably was but if you don't know for sure I can't see how you can lodge an appeal. In this instance I think its better to let sleeping dogs lie

Knowing marc as I do he was probably too full up on Desperado's to care who won what. Seriously though, who hasn't given a tip to a higher handicap player? She took nothing off you so let it slide mate. It'll spur her on to better things and will have made her year. Shouldn't someone have been showing her how to use an iron, or to sew a button onto something instead....joking, only joking.

Relaxed or not it's a competion where cash prizes are to be won and people have paid money to enter.

Me and marc saw them do it at least 4 or 5 times.

Knowingly breaking a rule in a comp is cheating in my eyes.

Plus one of them being the captain of the club he should know better.

I say bravo to them for engaging with the juniors and passing on a bit of knowledge.

Doesn't sound like it was the Masters.

Someone standing watching her take a practice swing and then physically adjusting it for her would deffo be seen as giving too much advice in my eyes.

Yeah it didn't affect me but what about the other 3 women in the comp that paid a entry fee?

I may seem i'm coming across harsh but if your playing in a competion where a prize is at stake then you have to abide by the rules of golf. It's teaching her bad habits and not teaching her the correct rules of golf.

Would pay to check that they were/she was, in fact, in the comp.

If so, then the Captain is the guy to talk to.

Then let him sort out the issue of 'Advice'.

Marc should have had a few bottles before he played!

Ask him how many points he scored!

The advice included getting her into her stance, showing her the swing to execute and when she flubbed it (not too often btw, she hit the ball well) taking time to have a chat about it. They lost more than a hole to the group in front during all of this.

It's all well and good saying, "It was a relaxed comp" etc but at what point do you then decide it's time to become stringent with the rules? Better to have her adhere strictly from the start, no?

I watched them sign cards and swap them as they walked off the 18th so i would say there were in the comp.

I will also add she looked a decent player and not some total novice, it wouldn't suprise me if she hadn't been playing for a good few years.

As far as I was aware, I'm allowed to take advice from either my caddy or my playing partner/s. What's the issue?

Hmmmmn, I suppose you have a point in that she should have been told that during the comp you will be on your own until you have finished. They then could have taken her onto the practice ground for a post round tune up. I suppose I can see both sides.

It wasn't a pairs or team comp, it was singles and they were also playing in the comp so you can't give advice to anyone unless it's a team/pairs comp and they are on your side.

Depends if she asked for it or did the guys give it without prompting?

If she didn't ask she has done nothing wrong. The men, however, would both be DQ for signing a lower score then they should have.
