High subs don't keep all riff raff out.
You need a decent admissions policy requiring 40 letters of support and an effective black ball system.
The ability to blackball a prospective member should be available, absolutely. For the first five years the new member should be on probation. Only them could their standing and character be properly assessed

Surely you already have all the information you need from what school they went to and what which Oxbridge college they attended.

Agreed. School and breeding are the most important elements, but you wouldn’t want to make a rash decision. Hence the 5 years observation

At a previous club there was one guy that continually wore jeans. Imaginatively we called him Jeans Man.

Saw him on a particularly wet day walking out of knee high rough and you could see his jeans just absorbing the water up the legs. First thought was that it had to be cold and uncomfortable.
Not the Jean Genie :D

Deserves all the discomfort he got

I'd be introducing elocution and grammar tests.

Incorrect and frivolous use of the words, "literally" and "random" and you're out!!😁😁

White vans.. out.

People who mention veganism or pronouns in the first 45 seconds of introduction, out!

Watchers of reality tv or karaoke participants, out!

Ps. Read my autosignature.
A bit harsh!

Played at Dewsbury last week - they've now got a 'no entry' type sign on the door warning people not to wear caps in the bar - which is by and large sparsely populated most of the time.
Following day, I'm at Willow Valley and count nine caps in the bar, it was busy as it was the Captains drive in but on any given Saturday or Sunday there's always a good crowd in there. I'd class both as working class golf clubs.

I'll ask this to those that have an opinion either way on the matter - what purpose does it serve to make people remove a cap. I don't go in the bar at Dewsbury and feel a sense of prestige cos there's nobody wearing a hat - is it a bit an outdated policy that golf clubs need to start redressing? (I know many have of course)

Would have to ask why does anyone need to wear a hat inside? It’s not sunny and raining inside

And for me it’s just good manners to take your hat off inside

It doesn't bother me either way but there is a significant section of society that do consider it rude to wear hats indoors , why would I want to offend them?

I'd say that significant section is miniscule in the general demographic. Obviously around golf clubs it becomes more of an issue because it's often a rule upheld to maintain status.

So you think all unnecessary clothes should be banned.

🤷‍♂️
That’s a stretch

But again why would anyone need to wear a hat inside

As I said it’s just good manners , same with talking it off when shaking hands - just good manners

I know it’s rare and ugly trait to have good manners these days though

I always take my shoes off to go in the clubhouse and pad around in my socks. There is, after all, a significant section of society who consider it rude to wear shoes indoors.
