Winter Rules - Preferred Lie

I played with this guy last Sunday and each time he was allowed to pick a preferred lie he was going for anything that could possibly make a kind of natural tee. One time I'm sure he placed his ball at least 1" high on some kind of earthworm mound... and hit his 4i 200 yds...

Is that allowed?

I'm pretty sure it's allowed provided it's within the specified distance of the original position, not nearer the hole, and he doesn't build the 'tee' himself.

Seen it done in our swindle. People were teeing up on worm castings and hitting driver from the fairway!

Perfectly legal as far as I am aware provided it is placed not nearer the hole. The rules can be used to your advantage sometimes.

I think so - as long as he places it first time - no re-positioning if it falls of the top of the cast
