Winter Olympics (for those that like them)

Funding for sports, not just Olympics is very strange imo. A sport does well, gets more funding - fair enough, but it should not be at the expense of a sprot that is not doing so well. How is a sport meant to improve, get better facilities, athletes and coaching, etc if it continually gets less money? Not sure there is an easy answer though.

I remember watching a game at the Newcastle arena, as it was called then, many years ago. Someone would be skating down the side and a defender would just slam them into the barriers. No attempt to get the puck. I couldn't get my head around that, took the fun out of it for me. I wanted to see stick work and skill.

I'm sure there is plenty there still but it didn't make sense.

Thank you for the explanation about the puck going forwards, never understood that and not seen it explained clearly before 👍
You are allowed to use your body to separate the player from the puck.

I'm not sure the funding authorities care (they may pay lip service to it when publicly quizzed) about the promotion of sport for the benefit of all across the board....they only care about whether we meet our headline medal expectations or not....apparently we were targeting 8 medals at this current winter games...the most we have ever won at one games is 5.

And that is one of my bugbears. Promote each sport as equally as possible, don't just fund those we are good at.

I guess that the pot isn't big enough for that.

There is also the argument that to be funded, you have to be good. You don't have a right to be a professional at a sport, particularly if you are relying on the authorities to fund you. Be good, really good, and the funding will be there.

It's tough, I mean that genuinely.

Stunning turnaround from the ladies curling team

7-4 down to the USA going in to the final two ends. Picked up two shots in the 9th end leaving the USA 1 ahead but with the last stone ("the hammer") in the last end....so USA well in the box seat. GB needing to steal the final end to tie the match and then do the same in the extra end that would have been needed.

But no....a stunning final shot by GB left them lying 2 with the final US stone to come and the US ballsed things up by catching one of the guards at the front of the house, leaving GB to steal 2 on the final end and take the match 8-7. Two games left now against Italy and Japan who lie last and last but one in the table....win them both and there's a chance we can still make the Semi-finals.

Gripping stuff!!!!

(Honestly)

I understand all the words you have used but not in the order or context you have used them 😂.

It’s basically bowls in the cold.
Can see celebrity Curling on channel 5 next year.
Gemma Collins & Joey Essex as team captains

Watched the team sprint ! That Norwegian fella is unreal, sprinting up hill in skis at a sub 3:20 per Km pace. His 5th gold of this games which is record equaling and now he has another event in which to clean sweep 6 golds and set a new record.

Was also blown away when the commentator mentioned the Swedish guy who weighs over 100kg but can run a a sub 31minute 10k! Unbelievable what these guys and girls can do.

Didn’t we have celebrity ski jumping a few years ago? The long jumping one, not the flicky one
Or it might have been in Germany.

What they definitely did in Germany is a version of celebrity luge, but instead of a luge they used a wok to slide down the track.

Channel 4 did The Jump for about 3 or 4 years

Not only is the snow causing havoc with the schedule for outdoor events, even the curling was delayed as some of the teams were late arriving due to too much snow.

God knows what would happen in the UK if we had that much snow ⛄

Heartbreak for the GB girls in the curling.
Yeah but sadly left themselves too much to do after losing their opening two matches.

The men however....sneak through to the semis as a result of Switzerland beating Italy this morning and then go and beat their "saviours" in the Semi!!!!
