Winter Olympics (for those that like them)

It is soooooo much fun 😄.

I'm torn between this and the snowboard cross as my favourite sports at this Olympics.
Definitely these two...especially the relay version of the speed skating...though I have also enjoyed the simplicity of the single jump "Big Air" events on both ski's and snowboard....and the curling has had me riveted.

Love the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton as well and the downhill ski-ing is always good...especially the slaloms.

No real bad events but must admit the ski-jumping now doesn't hold the attention as much as it did years ago.

Huge fun in one of the cross-country ski-ing events today where the three competitors who were last, all stopped a couple of hundred meters from the finish and had their own mini sprint to see who could avoid coming last....proper spirit and good entertainment for the crowds.

Johannes Klaebo

Simply magnificent. How he manages to run so fast up a snowy hill on ski's I just cannot understand....especially after 2 hours and 50km of cross country ski-ing.

We have witnessed true sporting greatness as he picks up his 6th Gold medal of the games.

Just been watching the last couple of laps the man’s a machine. I’ve done a fair bit of telemarking with work and it’s absolute graft just walking uphill in Ski’s let alone the spend he runs on after covering 50km.

I’ve been glued to every races he’s been in , it’s phenomenal.

I once toured with an Army guy who used a pair of telemarks. Can't say I was impressed, seemed a bit like choosing to play golf with an old set of blades and persimmon woods... presumably there's some reason (maybe the simplicity of the bindings?) which makes them suitable for military use.

Have to say, I always preferred going up. Skiing downhill on dodgy deep snow with a pack on the back can be far more tiring and occasionally terrifying!

As for the Norwegian guy, I take a passing interest in cycling, and I take the same "enjoy the spectacle, but..." view as with endurance snow sports. There's history with the Norwegians (and I'm sure many others) if you dig more than surface deep.

I can only assume it’s to do with the bindings and skis work with the pulks (sleds) that we use to strap to ourselves and drag whilst also wearing a loaded pack. Bloody graft I tell you!

But it really highlights the effort theses guys go to in order to get to the levels they’re at. It’s simply peak human performance and then some.

I can’t stand cycling no idea why! But winter sports for me I could watch them for hours and not get bored such is the fitness and skill levels combined.

Myself and the wife are currently glued to the curling and I’ve discovered she’s a bloody expert. I’ve been asking alsorts of questions and she’s been answering before the commentators say anything. Been together 10years and I had no idea she liked the sport and she’s announces “I love it, I watch it all the time when it’s on and you’re not home”. You think you know someone 🤣

My wife and her auntie talk on the phone all through the match - they love it , went mental when the blokes did brilliant shot to get them into the Semis , screamed the house down

Mrs H is the same. She’s telling me what shots they’re playing and why. She’s a cracking bowls player, and can see the similarities. I’m just glancing up now and then but she’s hooked on it.

The team with the hammer, throws the final stone 👍🏻
That’s how my Mrs explained it to me in simple terms.
It’s tight and tense right now

I still don’t understand it 😂 especially with the “hammer” 😂
literally both glued to it and Mrs M is calling the shots before they’ve played them. I genuinely had no idea ha had a clue about the sport! She was a very high level skier so I guess she’s had more exposure to these events but I’m baffled 🤣
