Winter Blues with the Carry Bags

There seems to be a certain lack of empathy from the youngsters here. 50 years old, some sort of sporting heritage and you 've got a dodgy back/knee?? Unbelievable....

Just wait lads, just wait.....

I'm 33, fortunate enough to be fit and able bodied. Few minor niggles but none of the major sporting injuries others are carrying.
I have a Clicgear trolley and also carry, depending on what I fancy that day. Carrying more recently, not sure why.
Carry full set of clubs, more balls than I could feasibly lose in half a dozen rounds, drink, water proofs, the lot.

65 years old, two shot knees from football and motor-cycling, one dodgy hip and a major heart attack yet I still carry so don't expect much sympathy here.

If you prefer carrying that is obviously up to you, it's all personal choice but I really don't understand all the claims that some previous injury makes it necessary.

A few years back we found it necessary to impose for a short time a total trolley ban. It was amazing how many of those who had previously insisted it would be impossible for them to carry suddenly enjoyed a Lazarus like recovery.

OK...might be having a rethink.
After carrying today I did feel quite tight across the shoulders and a bit weary towards the end of the round.
Might take the trolley next time and see if I feel any better.....

For me its the 3 knee rebuilds and the advice from the specialist that I should try hard not to carry whenever possible, that said carried for 9 today (light bag, 8 clubs, 4 balls bottle of water and a waterproof top)

Great innit, there's always someone bangs on about medical issues and replaced parts!!

Hang on Fundy, that's my job!!

I really like these age related debates!
One point obviously overlooked by some youngsters is that us 'wrinklies' have been young once and full of vim and vigour, not just BS.
I carry in winter with a light stand bag and 7clubs because I prefer to and could not care less what others do and I expect I am one of the oldest guys on the forum ( 75).
Just enjoy your golf,
I have and still do.
I hope you all live long enough to realise that sometimes youth is wasted on the young!!!!!
Dewsweeper:)

I kind of like carrying as it's less hassle packing the car, no much trolley to worry about and the roped off areas and white lines for trollies to avoid can be ignored. I took my least used 2 clubs out and carry 1 bottle of water rather than 2. After the first round this winter I felt the front of my shoulders were a bit tender when I heaved the bag on next time but otherwise no problem. In summer I prefer a trolley as bag is heavier with liquid and waterproofs and "just in case" gear I fill my bag with!
same here, carry in winter, less fuss with dirty wheels etc then in summer i get the trolley out.

I carry year round. No clubs get taken out for winter, same bag, same amount of balls in the bag, same equipment gets left in the bag. I simply don't think about it anymore. I do have a very active job and consider myself as "fit". I'm not a skinny bloke, far from it, but the physical effort of carry my golf bag around a course is a non-issue.
If someone can't or won't carry in winter, at least your should do your best to eliminate the effect you place on the high use areas of the a course. A lot of players/members just plough on without thought.

So today was my 5th consecutive round and carried each time. Don't think it's coincidence that the past 2 evenings I've struggled to complete my "Insanity" sessions. It does feel more physically demanding than pushing...the rain today and faffing with an umbrella which would usually be conveniently attached to my trolley didn't help.

Our course line didn't say "carry if able - to protect the course" today but figured it was no different to yesterday so did.

Far too much "i'm a macho man" on this thread.

In my opinion, i enjoy golf carrying as less as possible. So much easier to just push a trolley.

Life is short, why wouldn't you make things as easy as possible when you can?

I've picked up a good carry bag for over the winter. My previous carry bag was a cheap one and it did leave me with some pains after a round, however I've notice a big difference with the better quality bag.

Will probably have the trolley back out in April though.
