With carts starting to be banned on most courses we are into carry bags, question, do you pick it up slap it around your back and walk off--- or----have been advised or shown the best where it should rest on your back and what clubs would you leave in the locker to reduce weight?

We don`t want to come to out the other side of winter with crocked backs

Any thoughts.

Never had a problem with the back and carry bags. We're lucky enough to still have trollies allowed and not an issue yet. If I had to carry it would be weather dependent but if I could get away without waterproofs I'd drop those first. If not, I'll soldier on. It's not on the back for long per shot or hole

Carry all the time, 14 clubs, drinks, food, water proofs if required. It really isn't that heavy. I have seen a few comments about this on here and it seems like the majority are medically incapable of carrying.

If i take a carry bag its a half set and practice only. If it's a full competitive round and trolleys are banned I wouldn't play.

I have the lightest bag I could find (mizzie aerolight) with double straps.

Half set - d,h,5,7,9,50,56,p

6 balls.

If weather is dodgy I wear waterproof troos and carry lightweight waterproof jkt.

Couldn't carry a full set and don't think the score suffers particularly. A bit of shotmaking and course management is good for the soul.

Won't get the full set and trolley out till the spring.

I'm carrying a full set for the winter for the first time in years.
Mainly as I'm getting racked off with dirty trolley wheels
Quite enjoying it and not suffering afterwards

The trolley will still make a return come April though..

Does carrying a full set really hurt some of you? Is that the reason why you don't do it or is it laziness? Or something else entirely?

For me its the 3 knee rebuilds and the advice from the specialist that I should try hard not to carry whenever possible, that said carried for 9 today (light bag, 8 clubs, 4 balls bottle of water and a waterproof top)

So it's the stress that carrying a load of clubs which makes it too dangerous for you to carry?

No but having the extra weight increases the risk of re-injuring the knee, I have to be pretty careful when turning or changing direction anyway, esp in wet conditions, the extra weight and poorer balance can make it worse. No point in taking unnecessary risks, ive already had best part of 10 years out of the game due to the knee

Erm, Homer the bag may not be on your back a long time it is on your back all the way down each hole. Otherwise it couldn't get to the other end.

When I carry the most comfortable for me is to have the bag at the small of my back. As for balance I find it's better to have plenty of balls in the bottom pocket to help because otherwise it gets top heavy and no matter how I try doesn't feel right. It's all personal, experiment to see how you prefer.

I'm in a similar position fundy, haven't had an ACL in my right knee for 20 years. I'm extra careful in dodgy conditions. One slip and God knows how long before I could play again. It blows up after every round as it is!

After a footie injury making me have some of my right knee cartridge cut away and tearing my medial ligament I could carry the odd round but sometimes could not play for another couple of days because of it and that still depended on if the course was up and down hills or not. Then 3 1/2 years ago I had an accident and ended up with a type 3 separation of the AC joint. Basically I destroyed my shoulder and ended up in a sling for 3 months followed by lots of rehab.

Do I prefer to carry, of course I do! Can I carry a full set for 18 holes? Can I buggery, sometimes it makes my shoulder ache if I take my full bag onto the range and it is a long walk from the car.

After getting 18 fractures in my foot when I was younger (incident with a full beer barrel and a 2 foot drop) and also having lower back pain due to the last 20 odd years of humping and dumping IT kit, I prefer to take it easy on myself over winter and carry half a set and a hand-full of balls. If I carry a full set, my back would be in bits by the end of it.

Swap my irons over each week so one week it's even numbers, the next week odd. Only things that stay in are Driver, hybrid, SW & putter. Plus, it lets me think a lot more about course management and also creating shots.

Summer time it's back to full set and trolley.

I kind of like carrying as it's less hassle packing the car, no much trolley to worry about and the roped off areas and white lines for trollies to avoid can be ignored. I took my least used 2 clubs out and carry 1 bottle of water rather than 2. After the first round this winter I felt the front of my shoulders were a bit tender when I heaved the bag on next time but otherwise no problem. In summer I prefer a trolley as bag is heavier with liquid and waterproofs and "just in case" gear I fill my bag with!

I'm lucky enough to play at a course where using a trolley all year round is no issue whatsoever. If it is incredibly frosty, and damage could be likely, then I will look to carry, however, if it is that cold and frosty, I have to wonder if it is worth playing whatsoever!!

I use a trolley because I want to, will be buying a new carry bag at Xmas in the sales. For when I go to Spain next year.

I'm only 35 but course is quite hilly, like pushing my trolley, can load it up and not worry about the weight.
